Byelaws there are dated 2021 but the news article says they talked the DFT into an amendment to the tolls:

"Fresh price rises were introduced on the ferry in April, after they were agreed by the Department for Transport, following a public inquiry."

So how exactly is the ANPR going to operate, given the byelaws linked above seem to be silent about either a penalty (or contractual 'charge' issued by a rogue private parking firm) for failure to pay a Toll.

Under which statutory regime will the 'fines' be issued if people get it wrong?

What signage rules apply and what independent appeal is on offer … or is it a complete scam like the Excel toll bridge one appears to be, flying under the radar of the MHCLG and seemingly pulling the wool over the DFT's eyes in both cases?

The MHCLG need to urgently either:

    • add Toll charges to the Code of Practice (if these are being issued mimicking private PCNs like the Excel toll) or
    • state alongside the DFT that toll charges must only be issued under a Transport Act regime with the TSRGD applying to signage and a tribunal for appeals.

This new wheeze needs nipping in the bud right now or this is what we'll see popping up everywhere.

Pseudo tolls instead of parking tariffs, all barrier-less and payments accepted online only, which deliberately milks human nature and the likelihood of visitors innocently forgetting because there's no method to pay on site, even by card.

I did tell the MHCLG that the extremely lucrative barrier-less Airport drop off new scam that has made millions for APCOA, would be copied.

No areas should be barrier-less IMHO.

PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

The Sandbanks ferry is NOT the Dartford crossing ?

For thise not knowing this ferry it is a 5 minute crossing from Poole/Bournmenouth to Swanage saving a 20 mile round trip

At one time there was a guy who would collect money on the ferry which can only carry about 20 vehicles depending on size.

This meant in the high season a mega queue on the residential road leading to the ferry. Many times I have waited over one hour. I fail to see how ANPR will stop that ?

I used the ferry last summer, from the Poole end you just drive on. On the other side about 100 yds , there is a toll booth. So, coming back to the ferry it's the toll booth again to get a ticket. Bit of a rip off but what's new ? How ANPR can do better …… someone in the Sandbanks Ferry is living in cloud nine and LALA land.

WHAT ABOUT OLDER FOLK WHO DON'T HAVE MOBILES ?

This a honey trap no doubt sold to them by the GRIFTERS

The GRIFTERS will earn more money than the ferry service who maybe are suffering from severre dementia

I for one would not use an app to pay

At least it will also increase the already vast amount collected by the DVLA who will continue to sell motorists private data willy-nilly.

POFA is outdated and must be upgraded TO STOP MONEY SCAMMERS and that includes the BPA and IPC. Trouble is … Government are too scared

Its a little boat, there is no free flowing traffic.

You drive to the departure point, stop and wait for the boat to arrive, drive onto the boat, stop again while it moves to its destination and then drive off again.

Apparently it will reduce queues, how?

I cna see these ANPR "tolls" being rolled out in mulitple places, from school and hospital drop-offs to making previous pay car parks "free" but the access road having a toll.

A nice little side earner for the PPCs when ( or if) the government finally cracks down on private parking companies operating in car parks.

    From the Plain Language Commission:

"The BPA has surely become one of the most socially dangerous organisations in the UK"

SHEEER MADNES…. they have been sucked in by a money scammer. If failure to pay results in a £100 ticket, people will use the longer route which is a pleasant drive

That wouldn’t be Simon Lightwood MP who’s constituency includes the infamous Snow Hill Car Park a notorious entrapment site where the local taxi drivers have refused to pick up or drop anyone off at?

It will be the same Simon Lightwood MP if that Snowhill car park is situated in the Wakefield and Rothwell constituency.

Objectors have blasted plans by Lidl for ANPR cameras and proposed shorter parking time signs.

The objectors fear the measures will harm Rawtenstall town centre trade, breach an old planning agreement allowing 3hrs free parking for people visiting the town and could soon be mirrored at other supermarket sites such as ASDA.

Under the planning system, officers said the camera and signs are acceptable and have been approved. Any alterations to the terms of use of the car parking spaces would need a deed of variation to the original agreement. That is a separate legal process and does not affect deciding the plans.

To help ensure parking spaces are available for Isle of Wight customers...

The car park is for customer use only and users are warned of a £100 charge if the T&C are not followed.
