This was a minor keying error - victim paid for a space for a month typing O instead of 0 which led to 21 x £65 charges which somehow escalated to £4.5k. This was in Manchester but does not name the company involved.
Case went to court and victim won but it says his costs were £1000 because he was partially at fault.
Victim created Parc, supposedly an AI enhanced app which allows the driver to park and walk away. The app then works out which car park and makes the appropriate payment. https://www.parced.io/
(I can't see any problems with this at all, can you? 🤔)
The article says to contact Citizens Advice and parrots some of their useless information.Always remember to abide by Space Corps Directive 39436175880932/B:
'All nations attending the conference are only allocated one parking space.'

Now then. That's very interesting.
That says ECP reportedly went to the High Court to try to (effectively) gag the CMA from naming them!
That will have kept Derek Millard Smith busy and explains his article about the CMA's new powers and urging PPCs to comply, in Parking News.

- Euro Car Parks Limited has appealed the CMA’s decision to the High Court. The fine is not payable until this appeal is determined or withdrawn, unless the court orders otherwise.
Will be interesting to see how the appeal goes!

From the government web site above
The company (EURO) told the CMA they had blocked the CMA’s emails, stating that they believed they were fraudulent, and attempts to scam the firm. The CMA did not consider this a reasonable excuse and imposed the £473,00
"They thought they were being scammed" ?
Now they know how the motorist feels
Well done CMA , there are many more rogue traders to catch up on plus debt collectors and the dodgy legals

I've just alerted the MHCLG (in case they were unaware) because in my view, this has some relevant repercussions on the wider statutory framework that I can promise is taking shape.
I see this as only a first step - a toe in the water - by the CMA because we all know that much of the repeated sector-wide conduct we have evidenced for years crosses the line to likely criminal offences.
The CMA is the regulator for any 'misleading actions' against consumers.
More people should be reporting & attaching tangible evidence of lies , omissions and misleading comms to the CMA.
We should be encouraging certain new posters to bombard them - but selectively. Not scattergun general rants.

I hope the Euro Car Parks fine (and for once it's a real fine ) is the first of many.
