So i live in a cul de sac and bought the house a year ago. I applied for a dropped kerb for a driveway, however it has been rejected by the housin department as they said they invested in communal parking. However this is always full and have never been able to park near me house as i finish work late. Ive written to the counciller and he basically just replied with what the council told me before. Ive also got an EV so having a drive would be useful to charge that (I charge it at work mostly, but this would still be benifical). Is there anyway i could appeal to the council, ive started yesterday, taking a photo of the communal car park at the same time everyday to show how its always full. Other people here are also annoyed with how full it is and many of them would also like a drive. How do i go about this. Thanksthe drive would need to go through the grass, which is owned by housing

IMHO you don't stand a chance of a rethink.  It is the common good v you, losing maybe 3 parking spaces and crossing someone else's land, no chance.

So who's land would you be crossing to get to your drive? If the verge is the council's property they can in theory charge a leeway fee for crossing their land. I think the problem here is you are thinking in terms of you and your own inconvenience and not thinking about the inconvenience of others. If it's already difficult enough to park how is you removing a parking space going to improve that situation?
  • Yes thats why I was wondering when else could be done about it, I was also thinking of getting others on my street writing to the council asking to expand the parking space, since everyone i talk to always complains about the parking

no chance, I'm afraid. don't take this the wrong way, but I wouldn't have approved that either, it's just not the type of estate where you would fit a driveway.

Op, you will never get it because it may take away a paring spot or two plus as other said, you will be crossing the vast grass area.

The EV motor you have, surely you must have considered re the charging before you bought.

IMO, move if you really want OSP.

Maybe rather than wasting your energy with this and getting nowhere, what about campaigning to change the layout of the existing parking as the picture shows a lot of space could be being wasted there. The two cars on the left only use up half a bay each so that's potentially one extra space wasted. If most of your neighbours want a drive too then get them to ask about reconfiguration of the existing parking to free up extra space.

Thanks for the advice, will try send a letter to the council asking for them to restructur/ add more spaces to the carpark. Do you think I should get a signature from neighbours who also want parking space and send that along too?

IMO, there is not a lot of room there if the cars you refer to were parked at right angles to the pavement. The road narrows quickly after the red car and some peoples driving skills are not good and this would often result in peoples cars getting damaged.

The only solution I see is moving or stay put and accept what it is.

They have almost the same amount of space as this with just unmaintanted grass.
