Wizz Air - Power of Attorney

Hi all

I am in the process of making a compensation claim for a delay with the above mentioned airline, I am doing this on behalf of my husband and his two travelling companions as I booked their flight through my Wizz account, according to this paragraph - 4.3. In addition to the above, in case the submission of the Claim is based on authorization (Clause 4.1.1) a Power of Attorney needs to be submitted- has anyone submitted a power of attorney, if so what template did you use and did you have to have it notarized or is it just a letter of authority that's required? I have had no sense online from Wizz air regarding this and want it to be correct so they don't try to ignore the claim. If anyone has successfully claimed on behalf of someone else I would greatly appreciate the template letter used for this scenario. I have trawled the net to no avail.

    Wizz are required under Hungarian law to obtain permission for you to deal with the matter on behalf of your travelling companions.

    It just needs to be a simple signed document to the tune of

    'Under booking reference XXXXXX for flight W6XXXX on XX/XX/XX, I give lcbandituk permission to liaise with Wizz Air and receive compensation on my behalf'

    Hi

    Does the above apply for children as well? I'm in the same boat preparing a claim for myself, my wife and 2 kids. Surely I have power of attorney over the kids by default and they I can't imagine they could legally sign a document like that anyway?

    Also I booked through Lastminute.com and when I put in the booking reference it says the following

    According to our system this reservation was booked by a third party travel agency.

    Please note that only the booking owners, and the contact persons for all passengers on the affected reservation, are eligible to request rebook or refund in case of a cancellations or flight disruption.

    Our Customer Service Team will be able to assist you only with generic questions.

    The second paragraph is a little confusingly worded and the last sentence in particular is of slight concern, do I need to be concerned about it as everything else I've read suggests it doesnt matter if you booked directly or via an agent?

    If you booked on your Wizz account you will be the main booking holder.

    If an agent did this for you it's likely to them, so they will need to contact unless your details are added as contact.

    Even then the money will go to original account making the booking.

    Are you saying I may need to contact Lastminute.com for them to process the claim on my behalf? I did the actual booking through the Lastminute website, once booked they provided the Wizzair booking reference so I could check in directly on the Wizzair website. At that point I added myself and also my wife's e-mail addresses as Wizzair check-in contacts and I have a Wizzair website account where I added the booking reference to view the booking details etc, so a bit confused how to proceed.

    It looks like they have made the booking for you, so yes.

    Why book with an unauthorized agent? This I fear will cause you more grief than it solves.

    Because for whatever reason it was significantly cheaper through them than going direct to the airline. Are you sure that's actually the case though, the advice page doesn't mention about needing to go via the OTA if booked via them?

    • Again, the law is clear that it's the 'operating air carrier' (ie, the airline) which is responsible for refunding passengers when a flight is cancelled. So even if you booked with an online travel agency, the airline needs to give you the money back.

    This is not in Wizz's policies.

    The airline must refund their customer, and that customer is not you, it is the OTA.

    Wizz process refunds quickly, LM are known to not.

    This is not in Wizz's policies.

    The airline must refund their customer, and that customer is not you, it is the OTA.

    Hi @CKhalvashi - I've just come across this too - I booked direct with Wizz but I'm not sure I understand your answer.  By 'Power of Attorney' it says I need to put in a passenger and gives the option of my husband (the only other adult on the booking), so does this mean I need a document signed from him authorising me to deal with the claim? Does it need a witness or will just his signature be enough.

    Hello, if you've been asked for a signed PoA, this will be required.

    You can do it yourself at home, it just needs to have his signature on it.

    Please see my reply here, insert the details required and change lcbandituk to cloo (obviously with your real name).
