Its around 80 to 85 pence per cubic meter used, however they will charge a few pence more per cubic meter sewerage charge to take it away. It may sound expensive but in reality a cubic meter goes a long way, its one of the best financial decisions we have made. TIP!! check if rain water runs off from your property to a soak away rather than the drain then you are entitled to a rebate!0

Hi jawa1, unfortunately water gets dearer year by year, way above inflation. +9% this year! grr.
And they (YW/Kelda) are a little shy on telling you about fixed charges.
Meter measures cubic metres, ie 1000 litres or 220ish gallons.
Usually quarterly billing.- charges per quarter

Get it taken out ASAP.
I had a Yorkshire water metre installed 3 years back, it costs me more than the next door pays for there water rates. Next door is a large family and they always have the hose pipe on, I would not mind but me and my mrs hardly dare swithc the taps on.
You only have a year to have the metre taken out once installed!!!!
It is a myth it will save you money, you will not.0 -
I have a meter with them and we pay a lot. For some reason I can't get rid of mine! They make up reasons why I have to have a meter!I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Quick Grabbit, Freebies, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning and the UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.

It is not a myth!
It saves me many hundreds of ££££ a year - and many other people too. There have been lots of threads in this forum on this subject - take a look at them before assuming your individual circumstances apply to everyone else.
There are many factors that determine if you will save on a meter.
It depends on the rateable value of your house, type of house, consumption, area within the Board etc etc.
If you look at the threads you will see that the majority of people save by going on a meter.
You should bear in mind that all water charges(metered and unmetered) have increased by a large amount in the past couple of years. So there is no point in comparing current metered charges with unmetered charges of a couple of years ago.0 -
Cheggers, I agree with Cardew and make considerable savings. Again it depends on your lifestyle and wealth as to your final option. {e.g , if you live alone in a big house then most certainly a meter is a must, possibly not if you have a large young family with a 12' swimming pool ( 8' for £24.99 HERE on grabbit board?) }
Having a meter certainly makes you more aware of your consumption, and possible leaks, tending to make you more conservation orientated. Not a bad thing imho.
Mentioning leaks  , YW only charge sewage on 95% of your metered supply, (evaporation ? )
One important point that can be missed is that :-
Standing Charges are the SAME for both metered and non-meterd supplies .

It's not a myth for me either. My metered rate was less than half the unmetered rate. And remember it's not just water that is reduced, waste will also be based on the metered amount of water used (90% typically).
I note this because my water and waste are with separate companies.
Most companies quote their metered and unmetered rates.
You could estimate your useage - some companies have a guide for this try this ready reckoner to help you estimate your useage

Alternatively, most companies allow you to have a meter installed for up to 1 year and then opt to have it removed (eg if the bills are higher). Metered is a fairer system and it does encourage people not to waste water.
Portsmouth Water fits meters free, others may charge but you may find the charge pays for itself after a fairly short period.0 -

HTHs
I don't know about other water companies but Anglian Water's standing charges are MORE on unmetered supplies
See my post on the pros and cons sticky.
But I do know Yorkshire Water were named recently for imposing one of the biggest rises in charges this year of any supplier. It wouldn't surprise me if people are saying their metered bill is higher than the rates in Yorkshire. Then again I am sceptical about the whole metered thing!0
