And they (Santander) can be MUCH more eco-friendly if they stop issuing cards for accounts that don't need them. I applied for their cash ISA recently and had to chose between either linking this account to some other their card I have or getting a new card for this account. As I have no idea how the first option works I had to select the second one although I don't need any card for my ISA.
Yes, their so called 'eco-friendly' card will go to general waste without ever being used. Over years I had ISAs with various banks and Santander was and remains the only bank giving a cash card for their ISAs.

You chose the waste here by ordering a superfluous bank card.  If you had chosen option one then you'd not have another card and ATM access at Santander UK cashpoints utilising your existing card.

They forced me to make this choice. If  I started searching for information during the application process it could time out and expire.  And all this can be easily avoided by adding a short comment/explanation like yours to the application process.

Anyone else got this Eco friendly debit card
Yep. I switched to Santander recently and got debit cards for my Everyday Account & Basic account plus also this cash card for a savings account I opened:

  • I have a previous style Santander debit card and a cash card for an Isa.  When can I expect these to be replaced with the new eco cards? Will this be when they are due for renewal?

You will get new style cards when they expire or you report lost or stolen
  • Have new cash cards for savings been I produced and sent out in the new style or is it only debit cards so far?

These are the ATM /Cash cards - better than the red debit cards IMO
They've always been Cirrus (haven't changed brand like the debit cards) so you could conceivably get a old style one.

The previous design of debit card was also a Mastercard (lifted from another user on here):
