People *think* that a Ford Fiesta (I was with Ford) was just that but emmissions are/were often different together with various other things. One car we had from South Africa could only be made UK compliant at a cost of about £1,000Cyprus is in the EU, so this Yaris is to EU spec, which is what that certificate of compliance proves.

Grey_Critic said:Just had a thought - are you sure it is ex MOD? Cars in Cyprus used to be much much cheaper than in the UK and service personel used to bring them back to the UK. Not sure if they got an allowance to do so but it is possible it was a private import.

Yes, pretty sure I still have the paperwork with the soldier's name and imports paper etc!

Well, I have a letter dated 08-17 headed with the Ministry of Defence stating the car details and when it was admitted to MOD and its number plate there and then its number plate now with car's VIN it was inRAF Akrotiri

My (normal UK spec, bought in the UK) Mazda 3 had some weird issue with emissions data missing, was taxed fine but when we came to the Birmingham congestion zone setup they said it wasn't compliant and thus had to pay, even though it was Euro VI. I believe because Mazda made it compliant ahead of the launch but as it was registered in 2014 and the standard came in force 2015 it caused issues. DVLA had to fix it all but did so eventually so I don't have to pay the CC.0

When I worked for Ford as a Warranty Manager I got regular requests to register vehicles with Ford Personal Imports for warrant from members of the armed forces returning to the UK. Most of Europe qualified but Cyprus did not - caused a lot of problems at the time.0

There's a local trader near me that always appears to have lots of ex-MOD cars for sale all recently registered with the DVLA. Personally they don't appeal to me as sounds like the age old "1 owner, but many many uncareful drivers" scenario.1

Mildly_Miffed said:It's not because it was UK registered after 2017 - because the first registration date is the relevant one. It's because when it was imported, the person who registered it didn't bother with a certificate of compliance to prove the CO2 for that exact car. That means DVLA have given it the 0g/km figure.
The certificate of compliance isn't needed for cars over 10 years old at the time of registering, but if the car is post-2001, it won't go onto CO2-based VED bands. As a result, it'll be taxed on the pre-2001 engine-size based bands. Below 1550cc, £180.
https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-tax-rate-tables/rates-for-cars-and-light-goods-vehicles-registered-before-1-march-2001You need to get the certificate from Toyota GB for your exact car, and submit that to DVLA to get the CO2 corrected.I have a similar one, however, the vehicle I bought has remained in the uk. It too is ex MOD and is a Peugeot 208 1.6 HDI access a/c. I bought it last Friday from a garage and was charged £295 for VED. There is no way it should be this but not sure what to do to correct it.
The V5 states 0g/km as you suggested, I am guessing the garage did not inform the DVLA of the correct emission which I believe to be 96g/km. Date of first reg was May 2017 but registered with DVLA in Jan 2023.
A COC is 220 Euro’s from Peugeot. I want to make sure that the DVLA will change it before I get it.
Can anyone help please ?1 -
Hi
I did contact DVLA about it, their response was that once imported vehicles registered I can’t change it.Non sense I know, but I did not chase them after that.
they seemed to be happy that they getting extra money on tax and won’t change it0 -
If the first registration date (anywhere, not UK) was after 1st April 2017, it shouldn't be CO2 taxed.
It should be on the flat-rate £165/year, regardless of whether there's an official CO2 figure or not.
