  • Hi Squirrelz92 hope you're OK.so nice to read you have a nice time with family at the beach. Xx
  • Hope you're doing okay @Squirrelz92 !!
    Debt free November 2022

  • Period 5th August to 1st September

    Halifax CC1
    - Opening Balance £2900.64
    - Paid £29.65 £29.01 of this is via DD
    - Closing Balance £2870.99
Ended up paying a whopping £0.64 off the starting balance as it wouldn’t stop niggling me not having a nice round number. Isn’t much but every little helps. My direct debit automatically recalculates to pay the minimum every month hence why it changes slightly. Not ideal but it doesn’t bother me at the moment. Once I start paying this off, I will fix it to a set amount.

    Virgin CC2
    - Opening Balance £1768.33
    - Paid £117.51 £25 of this is via DD.
    - Closing Balance £1650.82
This is the card I am focusing on overpaying as the 0% interest finishes Jan 2023. With funds getting tighter by the month I made the decision this period to continue to make small PAD’s but not so often. I also decided to add them to my overpayment pot instead of throwing it straight to the CC so my statement for this month is a lot shorter! As a breakdown I managed to save £42.94 by rounding up every time I spent and also my irregular PAD’s. Not a bad effort I don’t think. I had barely anything left in the current account yesterday so I managed to send an extra £15.10 across. I also received my diesel reimbursement a few weeks ago from work so there was another £10.50 that got thrown across. The rest totalled £23.97 which came from Prolific very early on in the period. Haven’t done any more in weeks as time as been so limited.

    DWP
    - Opening Balance £670.74
    - Paid £31.94 via DD.
    - Closing Balance £638.80
No pressure with this one either as it will run for 2 years paying the same amount.

    Mum
    - Opening Balance £1300
    - Paid £0
    - Closing Balance £1300
Mum has said I can take as long as I need to pay this back as and when. Aim is to remove the rest and then pay back.

The total amount of money thrown at my debt this period is £179.10. This equates to a total percentage of 2.42% of my starting debt balance.

This period has been really rough, hence my lack of posting on here. The pressure of feeling the constant need to pay that little bit extra became too much at one point. I needed to take a break from being surrounded by my own and other people’s attempts to clear debt. Although the existing debt is very slowly coming down, unfortunately I have now begun to acquire a new debt at the vets for the blasted equine. I knew it was coming, it just hurts to see the amount owed so far. What doesn’t help is knowing she is going in at the end of this month for a monster operation costing £2500. 17% of this I need to pay for before livery fees etc so that’s another £500 roughly to be added to the £600. It’s never ending. I applied for a £7500 T*sco CC in the hope that I could transfer my CC2 balance and pay off the vets so my debt isn’t all over the place, but they had to send my application off to the underwriters for further investigation. I got accepted but because I was stupid enough to do it on my phone, when minimising the last part of the balance transfer to find my bank details, it shut me out and told me to wait to hear from them. It’s been over a week and heard nothing. Can’t apply for anything else as it will hurt my credit score.

This period just gone was the last period of my 1.79% interest rate for my mortgage so now I have had to fork out another £85 out of what would have been spending money to cover the new mortgage payment of £397. This plus an increase in livery due to my old yard shutting down (£68) and I am really feeling the pressure.

Work is utterly crap. I am so bored and unhappy. I am trying so hard to find something to do but the days are killing me. Doesn’t even help that studying whilst on the clock is forbidden otherwise I would be thoroughly occupied. I have been applying for other jobs which would suit me and my level of work needs far more. Salary plays a big part now in scouting for a new position as with what I earn now I am barely keeping afloat and it’s only going to get worse. I had an interview at a company down the road form me on Tuesday for the perfect position! A mix of management accounts and operational costing! The original spec offered a much higher salary but this had been revised after being unsuccessful in finding the ‘right person’ to fit the role after 4 months of looking. The revised salary is now lower but I am more than experienced with my ability to complete all tasks required on this spec. I mentioned both job specs when in the interview and sold myself on the fact that I am worth more than the revised salary but I not yet experienced enough for the original amount offered. My hopes aren’t high for obtaining the role considering the fact that the lady has been looking for one person for 6 months without success so I doubt I will be what she is after. I will find out today as she said she has another person to interview later on. If I did get it and was offered the amount I proposed I would be roughly £200 a month better off which would help immensely during this strenuous time.

My exam is next week for ACCA and I am royally stuffed. I have tried my best to absorb what is needed but I am not at all hopeful for a first time pass. My mind has been occupied with so much the last month, my studying has taken a back seat. Not good I know and the guilt does eat me alive sometimes. I wish I was one of these folks who can take something in and it instantly clicks and stays put. Seems to take me so much longer than others which is massively unmotivating.

Hope everyone is well anyway. Haven’t read anyone’s thread in almost a month so this will be my project over the next week or two. Slowly slowly!

Sounds really stressful  You probably already know this but just in case, when the vets bill you ask them to separate out nursing and livery, as normally all the nursing part can be reclaimed from insurance, but only half the livery.
Good luck with the exams, if you read articles in the last few months magazines, they often relate to exam questions, so may give some marks if any relate to your subject level

@SusieT, thanks for dropping by. Sadly my insurance company wont cover any form of livery or transport, only the treatment side of things hence my chunky bills :( I am not sure where to find the latest ACCA magazines? Shall try to find one on the internet :) Thanks!!

Shame they do not cover part of the livery, definately make sure the vets put nursing apart from it then, it will take a small difference and it all helps. ACCA used to send magazines out, but that was a *cough* few years ago, so if you are not getting them they must have stopped doing it now :(

  • Hi Squirrelz.. I'm sorry things have been so difficult at the minute! It sounds like a good idea to take a break from thinking about debt. I definitely need a break every now and then otherwise it can all become slightly overwhelming. Sending good luck vibes for the new job or if not this one, that something that is more fulfilling and pays better comes your way soon! Hope the horsey makes a good recovery, it is so stressful when animals are unwell on top of everything! Take care of yourself and good luck for the exam

We all have our ups and downs @Squirrelz92, and you have so much going on at the moment, that taking some time out for yourself is the main thing and the best gift you can give to your future self. I'm sorry that things have been so rubbish, and although I know nothing about horses and their care, I know what it's like to have a hefty debt accruing due to trying to provide the best for a loved one. My only advice is to take the days as they come and switch off from all the noise as and when you need to.

With the mortgage, I've never had one and I am unlikely to ever afford to buy anything or be capable of managing it, so I don't have any comparable pearls of wisdom. But I will say that it's good that your mum is not pressuring you, and hopefully you can make a repayment plan with the vets that is practical and doesn't leave you too stretched. It might not feel like it at the moment, but better things will come. Take care, and keep your head up, you're doing a great job and not all success stories are made from leaps and bounds. Sometimes, it's the small steps that can take you further.x

  • Morning @sunshine_raincloud and @keedie. Thanks so much for stopping by and offering your support. I think I am very much relying on the hope that very small steps will still get me to where I want to be at the end of it all. It just sucks when you think you are making decent progress and then another debt you didn’t want comes to slap you in the face :( one step forward and two steps back. Aaah well, what’s done is done and the only attitude I can have is to tackle it just like any other debt. I shall speak to the vets in the hope I can do a payment plan.

Since Friday I have put £3.38 into my CC2 pot, once again starting to build another little chunk of money to throw at my CC in less than 4 weeks time.

Well I made it out of my PM exam alive and without crying. Not that I am stating it wasn't at all difficult because my lord it was! I felt confident on the majority of the first 15 multiple choice questions, not so much on the next 3 and then the last two were a bit of a disaster. I did however answer every question and wrote whatever came to mind if no clue at all in the hope that I could scrape an extra mark or two. The 6 weeks wait for results begins! I purchased my next lot of study books for the next exam sitting in December so I shall be on with that once they arrive (hopefully before Monday). Normally the books equate to £80 but I remembered I had a 50% off voucher from an online learning provider so it came to £40. I could claim this back from work but I don't think I will considering I am actively looking for another employer. I have another job interview tomorrow evening, another on Friday late afternoon (awaiting confirmation) and potentially another early next week in the evening. Thankfully the market is full of positions suited to me, its just finding the right match.

Have deposited another few pound over the last few days into my CC2 pot for PAD's :) Also sent off my signed paperwork for my CC application with Tesco. Hoping they give me the full £7,500 limit so I can transfer my CC2 balance across and also throw the vet bill onto there. Will help with my credit score too having more credit available.

Finally having another little renovation work carried out in my boiler cupboard this evening. Costing me £110 to have 4 removable shelving units built as well as installing a door knob they forgot to swap the last time they were here. Excited to finally have shelves for my hoodies.... and towels and shower products. YAY!
