Denied Esta

Hi
Can anyone help. I inadvertently selected yes to one of the eligibility questions by mistake. I have been told to phone the cbp and they can correct this. They have told me they cannot. I now need a visa but wait time is around 8 months which is too late. And I know that you shouldn't book a holiday without a visa . But I wasn't planning on mucking up the Esta application. Any info would be much appreciated

Can I ask, which question was it that you messed up?

I thought that if you made a mistake you could just submit a new ESTA? So strange that they are saying you need a visa if it was a mistake.

Presumably the OP has admitted to having been suspected of genocide or a member of a terrorist organisation or one of the other Qs at the end which no one that had been would be openly admitting to if they were the type to decide to fill in an ESTA using their real details etc.

It would be understandable that having a sworn declaration that the OP is a terrorist (for example - you have to choose the answer and subsequently reconfirm the answer is accurate) that they's then want the opportunity to do some proper digging into the OP's background via a VISA application rather than just take another fee for a new ESTA where all the details are the same other than the OP no longer admits to their terrorist past.

Contact the US Embassy and get advice.
  • Yes was question 5 . As they were all scroll down option of yes or no it must have moved to yes as I was moving down the page. Again o know it was a mistake from myself and I should have picked it up when reviewing but again didn't realise I messed up until after submission. But reading posts and government and esta advice all lead to saying the CBP can correct this. They just seem not to want too. Getting a visa in a normal world isn't that difficult. But after covid and the fact millions of people were made redundant.  Just find it hard to believe this industry hasn't put provisions in place for when everything opened up.
  • Noodledoodleman we have but they won't speak to anyone without an appointment. Which I guess is there isn't enough staff.

    5) Have you ever committed fraud or misrepresented yourself or others to obtain, or assist others to obtain, a visa or entry into the United States?

So a fairly fundamental one that you can understand they'd want to make checks if you answered 'yes', confirmed that all you answers were correct and then subsequently backtracked

From what I've heard about in these situations they won't act without a face to face interview, hence the appointment requirement.
