I get what you are both saying . But even in my line of work which is manufacturing and then selling these items around the world. During covid we made a quater of the staff redundant and another quarter on furlough. The upturn was always going to happen. And when it did our company took on more staff than they previously let go. So all im saying is all these other business could and probably should acted similarly. The more people that get to go on holiday the more money they will make. My original post was a lot of things was pointed at the cbp being able to correct the mistake but because they can't/ won't we have to visa route. Which has been affected by events of the last 2 years .
And yes the esta is there to stop everyone needing visa's apart the odd idiot who gets it wrong but no one in their right mind would apply for an esta if they needed to select yes. As it tells you you eould be denied beforehand. So in theory they shouldn't even have the questions or they should be corrected like in my position.0 -

No have read you can apply after 24 hours or after 10 days some say you cannot apply at all. So not sure what to think. Was thinking if this had happened to anyone else what solution did they have if any.0 -
I did once apply for an ESTA using the wrong dob... the ESTA was approved and I only spotted the error several weeks later when getting things ready to go. Did a new ESTA with all the same details other than date of birth and it too was approved.
Its a very different scenario though because both applications were approved. Didn't have any issues at the border.1 -
Maybe I'm missing something from the kick off ?Did the US Embassy say that they couldn't review your application due to staff shortages ?My understanding is that they require a face to face interview when ESTA/Visa applications need to be reviewed - that is (and was) their default position.0

They won't review this case all they will deal with at the moment is approving visas which as you say you need a face to face Interview for. The backlog is due to shortages as I tried to expedite the appointment and they decline for above reasons and they can only deal with emergencies which is fair enough. My biggest issue with this and I know it is my own fault. If there is a backlog for whatever reason surely these kind of mistakes can be fixed and checked by the border patrol or homeland security to make sure we are not criminals. Clear the esta so we can reapply and if they do have a problem when we reach the states they can interview us or send us home, therefore the people who really do need visas are not having to wait longer because someone made clerical error.0 -
And to rub salt in the wounds from today its $21!Sandtree said:
This would be an option, for another $14, but an ESTA is technically an authority to travel not an authority to enter and whilst the airline will let you on the plane if the second application is granted you may find the US border force dont allow entry at the other end due to the admission of previous overstaying/illegal entry to the US etcTELLIT01 said:Quite possibly a silly question, but have you tried to complete a new ESTA application and if so what was the result?0 -
I would assume many staff who deal with things like visa applications returned to the USA due to the downturn in work due to Covid. It would take time to move them back to other countries, probably something which will not be considered to be a priority. If you've ever travelled to the USA you'll be aware that they aren't overly concerned about people waiting for hours to pass through security.

Yeah it probably is that. Just spent an hour on the phone to CBP nothing can be done except a visa. So will try to get the holiday cancelled as pretty certain will not get a visa in time.TELLIT01 said:I would assume many staff who deal with things like visa applications returned to the USA due to the downturn in work due to Covid. Thank you everyone who replied0 -
Government agencies can't just add more people at a whim though. Nor can they bend the rules to accommodate people who made mistakes. There will be guidelines as to what CBP can correct and what they can't. Perhaps if you'd mis-spelled your name they could change it. But if you tell them you are a terrorist and then change your mind they may not have the same leeway.ledwards777 said:I get what you are both saying . The questions are there to fulfil a legal obligation.
Bear in mind that you don't have to go to America if you don't like the way they run things.0 -
You can but would have to answer question 7 as yes which would result in it being refused again.TELLIT01 said:Quite possibly a silly question, but have you tried to complete a new ESTA application and if so what was the result?7) Have you ever been denied a U.S. visa you applied for with your current or previous passport, or No have you ever been refused admission to the United States or withdrawn your application for admission at a U.S. port of entry?
