“If, of thy mortal goods, thou art bereft,
And from thy slender store two loaves
alone to thee are left,
Sell one & from the dole,
Buy Hyacinths to feed the soul”
Muslihuddin Sadi, 13th Century Persian Poet

Employer payment amount is well above averageIf you have built castles in the air, your work should not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them

I suspect it is because a, they pay me minimum wage so it's 13% of nothing and b) posties don't live that long after they retire 🤣🤣🤣
Either way I wouldn't stay in a job for the pension. I did think the number was high though.
Was v excited to see my colleague back from sick leave this morning. Turns out nothing has changed for me as it's busy period so I'll still be working the same hours. Had a bit of a CBA day today 🤷
At least it means a consistent salary for the next two months.2 -
Mine just went up from 5 to 6% employer matched contribution

A few camping supplies and you’re good to go until spring automatically makes life better again 😊2 -
Ha I'm not in the winter hating camp Stymied. Autumn and winter is my favourite time of year.
The pension thing came about because I randomly got a letter saying I had twelve months service at the end of November and would be enrolled in the pension (as opposed to NEST). It appears to be the only benefit I actually get lol.
I appear to have made an appointment with an electrician for Thursday. We shall see if the mythical beast appears. In some unfortunate timing Sister Act has gone down with a lurgy. Have rescheduled the dentist for the following week to be a spare pair of hands.
Your flat list is fairly in line with what I was thinking. There is a working toilet, although I probably wouldn't use it at night so I may get a portable one.
Its a bit of a wait and see how much things will cost time. Would be much nicer to get decorative stuff lol.
In other news, McMo tokens have been binned. Nothing won this year despite taking my life in hands picking up soggy tokens in the ghetto.

I think it's important to have something that helps you feel good about the flat - not necessarily a full redecorate but something to make it cosy and say someone lives there, whether that be a plant, a cushion, lights, pictures... perhaps someone could buy you something for Christmas?I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. Yes I agree Cherry, I definitely understand the effects of aesthetics on mood etc now.
I do have plans to put up art, I'm not sure about plants as they are a bit of a sore spot right now. I was thinking maybe cut flowers. Also nice curtains and bedding. Once I decide on a bed ahem.
I'll have a better idea of budget once the mythical beast has been on Thursday.1 -
I can post you a tradescantia cutting if you like, they're very hardy and I'd be curious to see if they can withstand a journey in an envelope- and that way you're not to blame if the plant doesn't take 😁

Intriguing PiP not a plant I've tried before. Do you think it would survive in a cold damp Scottish room?
Actually should probably see if I survive it before adding plantlife1 -
Also thank you very much for the offer, but I do complain quite a lot about people sending plants and animals in the post so I should probably not partake in it lest I be deemed a hypocrite.1

If you decide it's okay to send plants, I can contribute a spider plant (or many). No point paying a fiver for one if you can have it for free and mine is so big that taking one of the waterfall of baby plants out will make no difference at all. They're also supposed to be good for the air though it doesn't sound as though you have sick building syndrome.
On the other hand, some people keep pet rocks and in the interests of avoiding cruelty to postal workers, I'd suggest that if you go for one of those, source it locally.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)
