It's interesting that you felt relief - and realised that's what you felt and are addressing what's behind it.

I love my phone but they can be thieves of time - and why do I spend time on silly games vs people I don't know? :D

  • It has been a shockingly long time since I have been on here.
Things have not changed a good deal although I do think I may be in a better place. Or perhaps have potential to be in a better place.
I ended up staying in Dublin for longer than expected. Mainly due to starting a walking habit which involved taking very long hikes in various woods. My brother came with me and we managed a 14 day streak before being grounded by bad weather.
Luckily though I did book to come home to Scotland as Small One ended up in hospital for a week and I was an extra pair of hands for my sister again. Thankfully he pulled through with the help of IV antibiotics although he now will never let a doctor near him again.
Th experience knocked me off course and I started a new job completely spaced out and sleep deprived. I managed to scrape through the training and first few shifts but it is hard going. I'm taking it very slowly- I genuinely want to try and do the job but given the circumstances and not being a particularly tolerant or easy going person I may struggle. Ahem.
I hope everyone is doing well. I'm quite behind with everything as well as just being generally annoyed at my dependence on technology so who know when I will catch up.
  • Glad you're okay and things are going well

It seems to have been a roller coaster. Good to have you back again.

It must have been very traumatic with the little one being in hospital, I hope he's okay now? And I agree with you he may have a hard time trusting doctors, perhaps that's something to work on with him, though you'd have to take advice from someone other than me. Role play with dolls and drawing therapy seem to feature in my vague idea of how children are helped to cope with memories.

Are you working every day? Well done for getting started. I'm sure as you get more used to it, it will get easier. As for patience, it's only a virtue if you have difficulty with it, if you see what I mean. ;)  I think you said it's a care role and sometimes there may be times when you have to step back from a situation that's winding you up (been there), which is better than snapping. Tell the person you need a minute and you'll be back (even if it takes more than a minute), and if it helps, talk it through with someone.

  • Glad to see you back safely. I hope your 'wood-shedding' period of walking was healing for you.

Sorry to hear about the little one. Sometimes kids who have had medical care actually go the other way and grow up to be nurses or doctors themselves, so I think it is all in the support from family going forward.

Starting a new job is always hard. I always feel out of place and useless and troublesome until I know what I am doing fully, but once I am in the routine and start to feel more confident I feel more settled. I hope your learning curve is not too stressful and you reach your comfort zone quickly. Make sure to take care of yourself while you are settling in. Talk to supportive people, and remember that you can't do everything at once, so there is likely to be less progress at home while your energy is focused on learning your new role. You are a survivor and you can do this.

Glad to see you back. Sounds pretty full on still. Hope things calm down for you soon.

  • Thanks all. My head is still quite melted these days and I have no idea what I'm doing most of the time so hopefully I will keep up with this diary.
Small One will have no choice in the matter as his mother is a doctor (a concept which has escaped him as she is still on maternity leave) and his father works at the hospital...
I have started working, a relief job is in a care home. I am currently doing shadow shifts but managed to leave the last one without booking any more which was accidentally on purpose ahem. I do find it quite stressful having shifts booked. It seems to shrink my entire week down to nothing. It has been quite a shock to the system, this job, I've never worked in a place before where nothing is written down. There isn't a training plan, its just a case of follow these people around and watch what they're doing. Which would be a great plan if everyone did the same thing or communicated why they were doing what they were doing... But they do not. It's a madhouse. But I can't say that I get bored which quite frankly, has not been the case in any job I have ever had.
