Blatant theft or blatant shoddy fulfillment or blatant split packaging.

It'll have happened somewhere between warehouse and delivery, but it doesn't really matter as long as you get the refund..
It was blatant - because 2 boxes of batteries were clearly removed and replaced with 3 individual batteries !
I have lost faith in Amazon - a similar thing has happened 3 times now !

So you've had three items missing and three refunds - Yet you're losing faith in Amazon?
You could potentially lose your account soon.

Dont think that Amazon would be that stupid - I have spent £1000's over the years
I don't think a company with a turnover of nearly $470bn will worry too much about closing your account if they felt you were a "problem account", no matter how many £1000s you have spent over the years.

Thousands of £s over the years probably equates to a few hundred £s profit at most which when you consider that Amazon UK had sales of almost £24 billion last year, is something that wouldn't even cause a microscopic blip to their profits should they decide to close your account.

I don't get stuff from Amazon that often, but from my experience of the way they package the goods I find it difficult to believe that someone could open a box, remove items, replace them with other items and then re-seal the box without ther being visible sings of the tampering.
I fing it even less likely that they'd go to the troube of doing so simply for a few AA batteries.....

I used to think the same until a couple of months ago when I ordered a not very expensive small kitchen appliance (soup maker) and when I opened the packing, it did contain the box for the soup maker but inside this box were 12 sachets of Pedigree Chum dog food.
When informed, Amazon immediately sent out a replacement and didn't want any photographs or any of the packaging or dog food returning.

Amazon will absolutely close your account for too many returns - and you won't be able to open a new one.

What algorithm they use is, of course, something they don't publicise

I already have two accounts - so.........
Anyway I am not doing anything wrong - Amazon keep on cocking up

If I was half as smart as I think I am - I'd be twice as smart as I REALLY am.

They would both go if Amazon close your account.
You may not be doing anything wrong, but Amazon might see see it as odd that three items have been sent that have been incorrect, and always of lower value.

Unprofitable customers simply aren't worth the bother. There's no right to be served by a business.

Doesn't matter. If a customer becomes more trouble than they are worth, regardless of who is at fault, any business can decline to sell to them again.

Firms that work on a high volume, low profit profit margin business model are particularly likely to go down that route as it is both cheaper than servicing "problem" customers and also serves as a deterrent to others.

There are plenty of "Help! Amazon has closed my account" threads to read on here and elsewhere.
  • It's not really proper to imply that Amazon will close your account because you've returned 3 things, it could deter people reading from sending stuff back when they are entitled to.

In my experience a regular customer returning the odd item now and then is unlikely to lose their account.

Customers that absorb an excessive amount of time and effort. Become apparent over time. That's the beauty of technology these days. Online returns are a major issue for many companies. A huge negative for conducting business in this way.
