should there be any compensation?

I understand and if you read the previous posts you will see that the company contacted me about this 2 days before i was due to travel and it was agreed that they could open the cases (which they did) and remove the offending items and then forward our clothing to us so this is not really applicable. We should still have received our belongings to enjoy our holiday instead we had no clothes or toiletries at all for the duration - 9 days!! Our cases were returned home the same day we arrived home with no locks and the offending items removed - therefore agreed actions and instructions were not followed.1

Have you sent a letter of complaint as several posters advised last week ? Please report back when they reply .0

That said this is complex because the OP was initially in the wrong due to the inclusion of prohibited items.
OP you need to write to complain, referencing the call - ideally with time and date as the call should have been recorded - there's no other obvious avenue. Email addresses are on this page: https://www.greatrail.com/contact/
WIthout doing this I'm not sure what other solution you might expect. Best of luck.0 -

Perhaps forwarding your luggage was not logistically possible at an economical cost. In addition as the locks were broken transporting your cases unlocked posed additional risks to the carrier. Ultimately the problem was self created. You are expecting compensation but haven't been required to pay for the time you've expended.
Wow! The luggage being forwarded was an additional service we had paid for that came at an additional cost - if you read the original post. Also the small locks being broken off had absolutely no bearing on the safety or otherwise of the cases as surprisingly the cases had zips!
I havent been required to pay for the time I expended! I made calls virtually everyday - cost and spent time waiting frequently number 21 in queue! time spent sending emails to 2 companies chasing our luggage but to top it all this was a special trip for my husbands 80th birthday - we are never going to have this again - the holiday cost more than your average holiday for what it was and you seem to suggest we dont deserve compensation. I dont think you have grasped the problem is that we had no clothes to wear on holiday - how would you feel.? So sad for you !0 -

You do like to be deliberately provocative don't you?OP, I'm sorry your holiday (and your husband's birthday) was so compromised. I hope you get a chance to take another, happier trip away at some point soon.1

I cannot understand why deodorant and aftershave are categorised with dry ice as potentially dangerous in luggage.Member #14 of SKI-ers club

Makes it a lot easier for the staff. But as a user of service its up to you check the T & C's you are signing up to.Hope for everything and expect nothing!!!

Agreed, but I can really understand why they didn't think day to day toiletries would be an issue. It wouldn't even have crossed my mind if I'd been the OP (especially as they don't do much travel). In any case, the point is that having been alerted to the mistake, the OP agreed to the required action and was repeatedly assured their luggage would be delivered.
