American fridge/freezer -What depth for wall unit over the top?

No the sides of cabinet will not be flush with the sides of ff. Also the over cabinet like I said will not have supports down to the floor so there will be no interference with ff doors. Moved into this house with a 90+ wide ff it broke and I bought an 80+ wide ff thinking I don’t mind the smaller size. There difference in size is noticeable and I do miss the bigger version so I plan to replace the one I have now with a 90+ wide that’s why I am making the over ff cabinet 100cm.Initial mortgage bal £487.5k, current £258k, target £243,750(halfway!)

Rosa_Damascena said:But the doors need allowance on the sides not at the top? So going 60 or 70 deep at the top will not have any impact on the doors? As for the doors I have given an allowance of 100cm space to accommodate different FF sizes. Maybe I am missing something @Rosa_Damascena about the sizes and measurements? Will the top not be flush with the sides?I understand the FF is ~830mm wide, but Sis' is leaving a space 1m wide for it, both for 'room' to prevent it looking hemmed in, but also as a contingency for a possible larger model in future. The bespoke wall unit will therefore be that 1m width, and go from the run of standard-depth wall units to the chimney breast. The front of the unit's door will be level with the front of the FF's doors, and I personally agree that this would look best. That'll make it roughly 700mm deep, from the wall to the front.I don't think the FF will look 'built in' to any degree - it'll remain very much a free-standing appliance, only with an additional unit mounted a few inches above it.1

American fridge freezers need to stick out a bit at the front, if they don't then the doors won't open fully.
typically I see a lot of kitchens with a 300mm deep cupboard above the AM F/F, including mine. when I asked why it was like this I was told it's because they need ventilation space, and nobody is tall enough to see or reach further back in a narrow cupboard anyway

To assist with the OP's dilemma, a real world case study (ie my kitchen):
It needs to protrude this amount:
No man is worth crawling on this earth.
So much to read, so little time.1 -
@Rosa_Damascena, yes it will protrude as chimney breast is 60 or less, base units 60 and surrounding wall units 35. The cabinet you have at the top was the only measurement in question. I do understand that the doors are chunky and to open fully they need space.Thank you makes everything clearer. In that setup the unit above the fridge doesn't typically go to the back wall so it gives more airflow to the rear of the machine however in your setup that isn't going to be possible.Initial mortgage bal £487.5k, current £258k, target £243,750(halfway!)

As Sis' points out, this unit will be ABOVE the FF, so will not impact on the opening of the doors.
Good point about ventilation, and that is why a gap should be left between the FF's top and the underside of the unit.
A BETTER solution, tho', would be to build the unit with its ~700mm deep sides so it can be secured to the wall, wall unit to its right, and chimbreast to its left, but to have the unit's back panel set in by ~100mm or more to allow an unhindered path for ventilation.
Bespoke units = peasy.
These are lovely kitchens above, but I think Sis's FF will look even better as it'll look COMPLETELY free standing in its own comfy space. :-)0 -
Thank you all for your input. Yes will keep ventilation needs in mind. There will be 10cm gap to top of fridge and with current fridge there will be 10cm left on each side. New fridge down the line will have 5cm left on each side and still 10cm ontopInitial mortgage bal £487.5k, current £258k, target £243,750(halfway!)
