She was fine Friday evening.I found her on the stairs late yesterday morning lying flat. She saw me and cried out.It was a stroke. She sat on my lap and was fed sausage and bacon. Her left side had gone and she couldn't walk. She had to be carried outside to the water bowl for a drink. She went to the vets where it was decided. She purred contently until the end with me and my wife cuddling her.The house is too quiet. There are no snores under the bed.We have a rescue arriving on Wednesday, (originally to enlargen our family) now we hope to give him the same love she had.Thank you for your kind words.May you find your sister soon Helli.

I feel for you TripleH.
Time will ease the pain you're currently feeling, although it's never easy even years down the line.
Get through the next few days of silence and the addition will soon be creating havoc.
Sending a virtual hug and remember, we're all here to support and listen.

We had a food delivery yesterday morning. Just taken all the senior food over to a local cat rescue place. Can't face returning it.Glad we did. We saw several old grumps there nearly all younger than our queen. She looked so much more alert and healthier than them (in her last weeks). It helps thaw a little that many of them may have a little nicer summer because of her.The rescue cat (about 1) we agreed to adopt a couple of weeks ago arrives this week. Hopefully he can have the same quality of life.May you find your sister soon Helli.

Sorry to have hijacked this thread.I think the hardest part is not loosing her as it was inevitable at her age but that it was the first and only time I ever saw her 'ask' for help. She was a determined independent cat but to see her lying very flat on the stairs, she looked at me and all I heard was "please help me".She was happy sat on our laps but when she moved she just fell rolled over. We delayed taking her to the vets for a couple of hours and sat outside with her in the sun. She was then carried in the car to the vets by my wife. She wasn't in distress, I suspect her mind had gone by then and we knew there was no way back, it gave us all a few more moments of happiness. The others have started looking for her now. Whilst she tended to keep to herself they've noticed she's not there at wet food time or this morning when I opened the door to let them out.Sorry again it's helping to let it out.May you find your sister soon Helli.

You have my sympathy.
My last dog was old but trundling along day to day with no major issues. She collapsed when out on a walk and I had to carry her home, sling her in the car and off to the vets to be PTS. Even when you know the time is going to be coming, even 24 hours to get your head round it is something.
Your girl was contented and had you with her to the end - that's something to hang onto. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.3 -
Animals can smell something we can't and it takes a while for them to settle, forming a new hierarchy.
It's good you had those last moments as it helps knowing the time is here.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear it in 2026.1 -
That cry for help was her way of saying how much she loved and trusted you. You gave her the best possible care, and her last memory will be the feeling of your cuddles and love. When we took our silver tabby to the vets for the last time I picked her up to put her in her travelling cage with tears rolling down my face. She gently licked my tears, as if to say 'it's all right mum - I'm ready to go now'.I know how hard it is, but please be comforted by the fact that she had a long and happy life with you, and that you gave her the gift of an easy death.4
