My contract is up with Sky and I'm looking at options to switch. Considering BB options currently but have hit a problem with NOW BB. It says when I do the checker on their website they currently can't supply BB to my address. When I was with Virgin Media 17 months NOW told me the same, no can do BB at your address.

Why is this do you think? Since moving to Sky BB 17 months ago and having my line reactivated it's been fine, I believe we've got fibre to the cabinet but I can't believe that's the problem.
Any advice if I can get NOW BB somehow or is it because Sky do not want me to swap to one of their own?

The cabinet for FTTC connections could be fully utilised so that Now can't place an order as there may be a waiting list.

Did you read the bit where I said I was with Virgin Media 17 months ago and I had the same problem, they said I couldn't have NOW broadband then.
When I did a few quotes with other companies, every single one said I can get broadband down the BT line to my property. Obviously back then I was on Virgin Media then I switched to Sky as one of the chosen companies.

I've also done this week a few others, all say yes you can get BB, we want your custom, so why can't NOW supply, the only one it seems who can't?

Just had a conversation with NOW BB and they said this. You are on full fibre at your property as yet we can't offer broadband to your property. And added...we are the only ones who can't offer a service to properties on full fibre.

To my knowledge we aren't on full fibre to the property. No one has physical put full fibre to the property, I'm guessing the lines have to be renewed for that or am I missing something here?

The fibre wont be installed to your property until the service is ordered and if Openreach full fibre is available, there may be a stop sell on copper based products, ie FTTC in this case

It sounds like FTTP has been provisioned in your area by Openreach and therefore, as mentioned above, there is likely a stop sell in place. Have a look here: https://www.openreach.co.uk/cpportal/products/product-withdrawal/stop-sells-updates

Also worth checking the BT ADSL checker to see if VDSL is still available or if there's currently a waiting list. https://www.broadbandchecker.btwholesale.com/#/ADSL

I think I'm with you on this.

So I understand last year we had cabling everywhere in our area, an estate. The main loop I will call it was installed underground as at various points they dug holes and cabling pulled through. After all the upheaval a few weeks went by and Openreach appeared at the bottom of my driveway (parked) but they were doing work on the pole opposite. Back and forth they finally left after a few hours.
Now I'm guessing we have full fibre from the cabinet to that pole opposite me but not to my property, well definitely not as I can see it's still the old copper wiring and terminal box.

So if I want fibre to the property it will most likely be supplied but at a cost from whoever to me?

Back to NOW broadband, that's why they can't or won't supply my broadband I guess?

This is how it's provisioned initially. If/when you order an FTTP service your ISP will get Openreach to come out and connect you up via a new overhead line and install the fibre cable to your property, there's no extra cost to you.

As far as Now BB are concerned if you follow those links I provided they'll give you an indication as to whether a stop/sell is now in place.

I've experienced the same with Now Broadband.  All the comparison sites say it's available, until you go to the Now Broadband website go through the process and get:

We are sorry, NOW Broadband is unavailable at your address.

While NOW Broadband can’t supply you with a service, Sky, our sibling company, may have some options available in your area. Click here to find out more.

You can click through to Sky and they are happy to offer a service, but at a price somewhat more than Sky.  I can't really understand it, Sky and other BT Line providers are happy to quote for ADSL or FTTC but Now can't.  ADSL and VDSL are showing Available on the BT line checker, and exchange is not part of a stop sell.  Perculiar.

It's probably because Sky are offering an FTTP service, Now BB only offers a FTTC product. Is VDSL actually available or is it on a waiting list?

Can you post the results of the BT wholesale checker?
