k_man said:Daliah saidI have long stopped doing it by SO, as I can do without the 'angst' about going into inadvertent overdrafts or about creating other issues. Specifically with Chase, I would not set up ping-pong SOs, as Chase process them 7 days a week whilst most banks only process them on working days.
Thanks, I thought I remembered that some banks process SOs on non-working days.
I am happy doing this with SOs, but have a few days between each.
I think that if you have just one or two accounts, it's probably not too difficult to organise SOs, and you won't lose too much interest by keeping money in accounts that pay no interest.
However, I have 9 accounts, requiring a total of £12,500 if done on the same day. Even assuming I have a spare £12.5K sitting there throughout the year. I am not happy having this sort of money earning no interest, not even for only a few days a month. I also wouldn't tie myself in knots trying to work out a schedule that would spread the payments throughout the month and thereby require at lot less than £12.5K at a time.
In addition, I need to log into all 9 accounts for other reasons at least once a month anyway, so cycling the required monthly deposit through the accounts manually at that stage is very little extra effort. I haven't timed it but I would say it doesn't take me much more than 5 minutes a month. The added benefit is that I know for certain that it's done, that it hasn't caused any unexpected problems, and that my monthly schedule is not affected by weekends and bank holidays.

For what its worth, I have four saver accounts with YBS, one is a very old legacy account and that is the only one that will allow me to use debit card payments in. The other three which are about two years old, will not take debit card payments. The facility does not exist on these accounts.
I choose the rooms that I live in with care,
The windows are small and the walls almost bare,
There's only one bed and there's only one prayer;
I listen all night for your step on the stair.0 -

I also have the Make Me A Saver account, which also allows debit card deposits and can still be applied for as of now, though it has a max £150 monthly deposit limit, i.e. not much use for the purposes of this thread
My ancient ex Egg-Saver account with YBS also offers debit card deposits but it can no longer be applied for so would obviously only be of use if you have it already. Uniquely, it also allows Direct Debit deposits, which none of their other savings accounts do. You aren't mixing up the DD and DC options?
I am sure that the debit card deposits into the above accounts are not specific to account holders.

I have two legacy accounts that also allow direct debits no longer used as Halifax don't require DDs but used if I need DDs for a switching bonus. One was ex Egg saver can't remember what the other was.
I have four other YBS savings accounts the most recent being Make Me A e-Saver, opened in February this year, all of which offer debit card deposits.
For the sake of research I have just applied for an Internet Saver Plus Issue 10
will let you know tomorrow when it is set up if it offers deposit by DC.
As part of the application process there was the option to make the initial deposit by DC.0 -

When logging in please remember that your customer number and account number are different.
- Transfer from existing bank or building society - you can do this now by using the bank transfer details within the green box above.
This doesn't sound like about only the initial deposit.0 -

I don’t doubt that debit card deposits are permitted.
I only opened the account to prove definitively that they are available with new accounts opened now.0 -
The e-mail I quoted was from the 7th of May.
