They were returned unpaid but when I look back at the date I made the purchase it shows that I had enough money to cover the DD's but in reality I didn't but it looks like I did as the money is showing in my account but I couldn't use it - like a ghost balance... if that makes sense?WillPS said:Hellohoneybun said:Hi all, not sure of this is the right place but I've a question about my Halifax account. So I made a payment to a company on thr 21st April, but the order was cancelled and to be refunded back. In my account it showed as pending for several days and I kept checking for the money (£150.43). However if I go back to that date now it shows that my balance includes this money, yet there wasn't enough in to cover my direct debits (moved from weekly to monthly pay and missed these DD's) which were all returned despite showing that I'd enough to cover them. Why does it appear that the money was returned but I haven't been able to use it. I'm very confused and guy at the bank didn't understand either!
If the money was pending then it wasn't available to cover your direct debits, so unless you had an overdraft facility they would have been returned unpaid.0 -
Is that the app or via web browser? I’ve just checked via app and can’t see similar, looks like iOS with safari’s browser url bring at bottom?Daliah said:0 -
Phone up the people who took the DD and say you don't know why the DD failed. Offer to pay on the phone using a debit card. Ask for any late fees/interest to be refunded.Hellohoneybun said:

Make a complaint to Halifax that the DD weren't paid, when they explain tell them you found it confusing as it looked like you had enough money to cover it. Ask them to reimburse any losses that you couldn't get refunded. At some point they might offer you extra money to get you to go away. Don't say you are happy to close the complaint, until you are happy.
Then don't do it again.0 -
DD's are all paid now and new dates arranged. I moved from weekly to monthly pay so everything is sorted that way now. I just don't understand why the money that was supposedly returned isn't in my account even though it showed it was when my DD's weren't paid - there was no money in my account during that period so that's why it is confusing!phillw said:

NS&I Saver has worked paid in my £500 so all good0

So is that to meet DC spend criterion for May?GTR_King said:NS&I Saver has worked paid in my £500 so all good
Had you registered that the DC spend would be your chosen way of getting the £5 in respect of this month?0 -
That £500 debit card payment to NS&I Is for the June £5 missed the chance for it in may,
I choose £500 DC Spend0 -
I deposit into a Skipton BS Saver. Takes a day or two for the money to go in, withdrawals are a bit quicker.0

If the £500 leaves your account in May after you selected that as your method for achieving the £5 in the current year then it meets the criterion for May which is paid to you in June.GTR_King said:That £500 debit card payment to NS&I Is for the June £5 missed the chance for it in may,

If it had left your account before the DC spend was selected for May and beyond, then I think you would need to have another £500 collected in May in order to get the £5 in June. I guess you know all that and everything will be fine.0
