Hello @mothernerd and all you lovely turtles. Could I join please?.
Came across this thread by chance, I've been on O/S board for a while, but this year has been very challenging already (not financially so far) so I would like to have a change and a bit of mischief and mayhem sounds ideal

Morning, Turtles. It's nice to be back. 1st May already. Time is just whizzing by.
Budgets, charity donations, etc all done. I need to make a meal plan but more of that later.
My goals for this month:
Money - I'm focussing on trying to build up savings. We have three things we're saving for:
a) a holiday in Europe at the beginning of next year. That's all going according to plan.
b) a fund for paying for holidays in the UK this year. That needs a bit of work.
c) that day in December. I've been putting £2.00 a day into an account and hope to have £700 by the time I need to start buying things. There's only Himself and me plus a very few people to buy gifts for so it should get me well on my way.
This month could be a bit expensive as I need to renew my passport and we're going for a short break in Edinburgh (not that I need a passport for that). The accommodation is already paid for and the travel is free so just money for meals, drinks, etc.
Only one birthday this month. Just needs a card which I've already got.
Home - Those of you who know me will know that I live with the worst (or best, depending on how you look at it) hoarder in the world. I've put my foot down. The rubbish has to go! I spent most of last week shredding bank statements, credit card statement, etc, etc, etc. I mean, do you really need something that was issued in 1982? And the house is going to get a really good clean.
Himself has been banned from buying any more food (except for essential fruit and veg) until we use up what is in the freezers and store cupboard. No more freezing one left over Brussel sprout. Yes, he has been known to do that. I started that particular challenge a couple of weeks ago but , believe me, planning meals is a real challenge.
Me - Still trying to loose weight and failing miserably. But needs must. It may not be a massive amount but I'm sure it's impacting on my health. So no snacking, healthy eating and drinking lots of water. Really need to do something about my appearance to make me feel a bit more confident. I am a terrible worrier. You know, the kind of person who worries because they can't think of anything to worry about! Getting myself organised should help with that. Hopefully.
So that's me. I've been rambling a bit, haven't I? Notebook at the ready, list of things to do and I'm up and running.
Day one and determined. Good luck, Everyone.Have adventures. laugh a lot and always be kind.8 -
Another worrier here @Toni’sfriend. I can’t leave the house without worrying about the route I’ll take, where I’ll park, etc. I’m also holding on to 100 yr old paperwork and clothes that don’t fit 😖 you have excellent goals there, good luck.I haven’t really thought the challenge through yet, but so far my aims are to stay within my self designated weekly pocket money amount and to make some effort to get rid of unused ‘stuff’.Not all who wander are lost - J.R.R.Tolkien

Sunday 1st May 2022
Quote of the day
Ask yourself what is really important and then have the courage to build your life around the answer
You are not an endless fountain of energy and goodness. DO NOT sacrifice your wellbeing for other people.
Some silly holidays (have a laugh, join in, add to your meal plan ideas, save for a rainy day / school holiday ideas)
1 May Day (dance around a maypole/ sing the Internationale), Mother Goose Day
2 Baby Day or Brothers and Sisters Day
3 Do Something Special for YOU Day
4 Star Wars Day 'May the Fourth Be With You'
5 Cinco de Mayo
6 National Nurses Day
7 National Roast a Lamb Day (a whole one? think we'll watch Shaun the Sheep instead)
8 No Socks Day
9 Lost sock Day (not sure if we celebrate them, wear them or ceremonially burn all the odd ones0
10 Clean Your Room Day
Some prompts for those who are struggling to visualise their Dream Life (or Best life) No need to share unless you need to.
Practical
What is going well in your life right now?
What could be improved?
What did you do that went well in the past week?
What are you going to work on in the coming week?
What area(s) of your life is getting most attention right now? (work, family, social life, money, fun, health, fitness)
What area(s) need a little more love and attention?
What are you current short and long-term goals? Do they need revising?
What fears do you have?
What scares you/ excites you about the future?
What would you do if you were not afraid?
What would you do with your life if money were no object?
I'm not keen on this one, there's too much presumption that we all want to be rich and that money is a measure of our true worth. I don't want 'winning the lottery' money, I'd rather have enough to cover my basic needs without worrying and that this were true for everyone - it isn't impossible.
It can be a good starting point but I think it needs the follow up of 'What are you doing at the moment to get there?' Is it just an idle dream or is some of it what you really want? What's holding you back (will talk about self-limiting beliefs another day).
A few more 'whimsical' prompts (I like these because I found they awakened memories and my senses)
1 What is the best day at the beach or lake you can remember?
2 What flowers are in your bouquet?
3 5 Silly ways to pass the time in a snowstorm?
4 A little bit about yourself as a cat?
5 3 different directions you can go in at a crossroads in the woods on a sunny day?
6 What is your unicorn's special magic?
There are lots more but that's enough to be going on with.
End quote
When you can't face your whole life, just face today. You can survive today.
