I'm in London, electricity only. British Gas are offering me Loyalty Jul 23v1, fixed until end July 2023:

    Standing charge: 26.388p per day
    Unit rate: 39.994p per KWh
    Exit fee: £100 until 13th June 2023

Annual estimate is a 31.3% increase on current price cap rate.

Eon seem to be offering a good rate for existing customers. I calculated to be 21% above price cap

That is probably the best deal on the market right now.
  • British Gas offered via email today this which I think is around 31% more than current:

    Tariff: Loyalty Jul 23v1
    Standing charge:
    42.774p per day
    Unit rate:
    37.720p per kWh

    Currently on:
    Tariff: Welcome to British Gas
    Standing charge:
    48.527p per day
    Unit rate:
    27.358p per kWh
  • @KitKat270 Ditto for me. Those rates are, of course, just for electricity from BG. Presumably there are corresponding rates for Gas only and/or Dual.

A new rate has appeared on my account, is this worth taking ?

    2 year contract until 30 June 2024
    £300 early exit fee.

Your estimated annual electricity use is 5,742 kilowatt hours.
Your estimated annual gas use is 11,785 kilowatt hours

    Electricity unit rate: 39.51 pence
    Gas unit rate: 11.587 pence

Electricity standing charge: 365 days at 42.25p
Gas standing charge: 365 days at 27.22p

    £2,422.33 Electricity
    £1,464.83 Gas

    approx £325 per month.

I'm currently paying £225 per month.

What do you think ? is it worth doing ?

    Thanks
  • The fix represents an increase of 31.8% over what I am paying now. So does that meet Martin's '35% test', or am I misunderstanding?

This is my first post but have appreciated reading this thread. My fixed rate with Octopus (previously Coop) ends at the end of July.

    Your current tariff

    Gas: 4.01p per kWh

    Standing charges

    Electricity: 23.76p per day

    Gas: 26.59p per day

I’m now being offered a variable rate, or this fixed rate, and interested in whether this is considered worth taking?

Does anyone know roughly what the standing charge and kwh will be for the new predicted cap? That's the only way my simple brain can judge if a fixed term deal is viable!
We're only guessing at the moment, but around 12p/kWh for gas and 43p/kWh for elec with the standing charges remaining the same would work out at roughly the right cap.

My calculation is 42.71p and 12.47p if there is no increase in standing charges.

But it is all only based on the last prediction of Cornwall Insights. Nobody knows how good especially their figures for how much is gas and how much electricity increase.
  • Hi all, I’m just after some advice as the expected email from British Gas has come through and I just can’t seem to figure out what to do on mse advice(it’s been a long hot day so me brain has melted!)

So it’s just me in a 2 bed new build, moved in last July and was put on fix
    Year-£445.69

    Gas: £166.68
    Standing charge:
    26.598p per day
    Unit rate:
    3.328p per kWh
    Electricity: £279.01
    Standing charge:
    24.023p per day
    Unit rate:
    19.001p per kWh

Now, been offered a loyalty fix of
    £839.83

    Gas: £323.65
    Standing charge:
    24.206p per day
    Unit rate:
    11.248p per kWh
    Electricity: £516.18
    Standing charge:
    32.165p per day
    Unit rate:
    39.601p per kWh

    Or I don’t fix

    £685.79

    Gas: £252.96
    Standing charge:
    27.220p per day
    Unit rate:
    7.344p per kWh
    Electricity: £432.83
    Standing charge:
    37.918p per day
    Unit rate:
    29.240p per kWh

They state these are all based on
Estimated annual cost based on your 2092kWh gas usage and 1007kWh electricity usage per year

Both the figures here are a bit more according to my last bills so maybe I need to question these? Not by loads.
Anyway, that’s not mega important I suppose, I would like to also say that my original tariff i got into quite a bit of credit so for a while I was only paying £20 a month for both. It also mentioned that dd may not change even if I change tariff as it will just be reviewed twice a year🤷‍♀️.
Im still unsure what to do, I know an increase is coming in October 😬
