If I wanted to move from the current standard British Gas rates are there any better fixed deals there? The  Jul 23v2 they offered is no longer there. Thanks.
  • Hi all,

can’t decide if to fix now before my current fix ends (oct22) or to wait until the end.
Looking at fixes now I’ll be paying an extra £160 per month (currently paying £106 per month) so over the 3 months remaining on my cheap current fix that’s an extra £480 that I could save.... 🤔🤷‍♂️

  • what is baffling for me with british gas and i class myself of average intelligence is the lack of bills since beginning of jan. when i moved tarriffs. the tarriff im on now it seems is as follows
gas 7.63 previous bill 3.073 new tarriff offered 11.142. standing charges in same order 42.562,24.551,24.48 per annum thus
electric in same order 34.512 per kw, previous 17.539, offer 37.505
    electric per day. 42.899,previous 24.425, new 43.433
new offer is to july 23 but the other annoying thing is last bill usage on gas for 6months july to end dec was 3840 kw on new tarriff they estimate 12000 per annum, on electric estimated on old bill 737 per annum now estimate 2900 this puts up  my monlthy premium from £80 to £148 and im £450 in credit how the hell can you make an informed decision on these figures

With wholesale gas prices at their lowest level since November 2021, we want to know what fixed energy deals you're being offered by your current provider.

On a EDF fix, "Easy Online 2 Year Fix Jul22", sadly ending 31/07/2022.

    We've been offered the following:

    "Total Long-Term" - fixed until 30 June 2024 at £382 per month

"Online Long-Term + BoilerCare Gold" - fixed until 30 June 2024 at £382 per month.

"Standard Variable" at £246 per month. Our default option if we do nothing.

Seems like the Standard Variable is the best option?

Current pay £127 per month on the 2 year fix.

I know we've been lucky to have that fixed deal for as long as we did.

Good luck to everyone. It's going to be a difficult 12 months.

The "standard" variable will go up by gezillions in October and by then those total long term fixes may look generous !!!

Indeed, it does seem likely to rise around 40% to 51% in October but with prices potentially falling in 2023?

Only going off the "should I fix" article on MSE, I have zero knowledge of this industry.

£382 over 24 months could possibly be higher than that over the full 2-year term, when you factor in the period between now and the autumn rise this year. Of course, if it rises yet again in spring 2023 (rather than falling / staying stable) I'd be very wrong. It's difficult. No obvious answers seemingly.
  • Any guidance would be appreciated. I have the option to fix to EONNext Onlive V15 which is one of the tariffs flagged on the website. My current deal is:

    Electricity usage

    4,108kWh

    Electricity unit rate

    28.46p per kWh

    Electricity standing charge

    43.39p per day

    Gas usage

    16,130kWh

    Gas unit rate

    7.48p per kWh

    Gas standing charge

    27.22p per day

    The New Tarrif is:

    Electricity

    Gas

    Daily standing charge

    43.39p

    27.22p

    Unit rate

    42.76p per kWh

    10.93p per kWh

    Assumed annual usage

    4,108kWh

    16,130kWh

    Estimated annual cost

    £1,914.85

    £1,863.12

    Is this worth the fix?

    Your calculations look correct.

Only you will not have the full savings for 9 months. Only 6 months are more or less sure as a very small increase is expected for January, but in April there hopefully will be a small drop, but your fix should still be slightly cheaper.
    @pochase
thanks again. Yeah, I meant to factor in the 6 months. This is for my elderly parents, so I am dithering so much on whether to fix for them or not, as they came off a fix at end April, so already a big jump for them. If only we had a crystal ball eh and knew if the Oct SVT will rise further.
I know the fix has a 14 day cooling off period, but unsure if BG would still offer the same SVT rate if I cancelled the fix.
There is only one SVT, so nothing would change from the status quo. Just make sure that BG allows the cooling off period. All the Ofgem guidelines only talk about going back to the old supplier if you cancel, nothing there states what happens if you take a new tariff with the same supplier.

I know that EDF has a cooling off for tariff changes and I assume all others also will, but I don't know for sure :)

One ray of sunlight for Eon Next customers is there are zero exit fees so if for some reason it doesn't end up as bad as the estimates for the October price cap you can move freely to another tariff including the standard variable rate..

This deal is mentioned by Martin Lewis so probably worth a read
