I’m having problems with EDF. Currently with them and on the Standard variable rate, when I try and view their fixes online, I get a message saying I have a ‘complex meter’ which I don’t. And need to phone them up, I have done and they have told me it’s an error with their site and they can’t tell me when it will be fixed, but until then all they can offer me is the deal over the phone, which I would switch too, £113 a month, which is ridiculous but think it might be the right option for the long term. But I know if I could view their tariffs online they would be cheaper than this!Anyone else having trouble with viewing tariffs online with EDF when they are currently with them?I want to act now to secure a fix, but don’t want to fix in at a rate when I know I could get better online. Thanks in advance!0

Only you will not have the full savings for 9 months. Only 6 months are more or less sure as a very small increase is expected for January, but in April there hopefully will be a small drop, but your fix should still be slightly cheaper.
thanks again. Yeah, I meant to factor in the 6 months. This is for my elderly parents, so I am dithering so much on whether to fix for them or not, as they came off a fix at end April, so already a big jump for them. If only we had a crystal ball eh and knew if the Oct SVT will rise further.
I know the fix has a 14 day cooling off period, but unsure if BG would still offer the same SVT rate if I cancelled the fix.
I know that EDF has a cooling off for tariff changes and I assume all others also will, but I don't know for sure

It seems that if you can get an electric rate under 38p/kwh, its worth switching as most are now going over 41p.
Eon next customers should ask over the phone for the loyalty plan if it is still available.0 -
BG offering me fixed until August 23 - electricity is 41.071p per unit, 47.243p standing charge0

Not my provider but an open-market fix that might be worth considering:I've just got a quote from Green Energy UK (one of the uncapped "green" suppliers) and their open-market "Sparkling Tariff" is a 15-month fix (to September 2023) at about £2800/yr for Ofgem's typical customer. With no exit fees.In my region - Southern - I'm offered:
- Gas - 11.75p/kWh, 31.31ppd SC
- Electricity - 38.96p/kWh, 43.39ppd SC
This is a similar price to the £2800/yr EDF and E.On Next loyalty tariffs currently showing on the MSE article, and a bit cheaper than the supposed "cheapest open-market deal".(I can get as far as the GEUK sign-up page but don't want to go any further so can't give a 100% asurance that it's available.)

My electricity is supplied by British Gas; I am in the North West. They have just offered me their "Loyalty Jul 23v1" tariff: 36.489 p/day standing charge, 38.382p/kWh unit rate - fixed until 31/07/2023. Since this works out only 30% more than the current capped SVT for me, I'm accepting the offer.0

Currently with Octopus on variable tariff:
Flexible Avro
Electricity 28.01p/kWh 41.98p per day
Gas 7.34p/kWh 27.22p per day
£1824 annual costBeing offered a fix for existing customers:
Loyal Octopus 12M Fixed
Electricity 40.06p/kWh 41.98p per day
Gas 11.31p/kWh 27.22p per day
£2583 annual cost
No early exit fee
If I’ve worked it out right annual cost wise looks like 42% increase, Electricity 43% up & standing charge same, Gas 53% up & standing charge same.
Can anyone offer advice or opinions to help me decide whether to stay variable or fix?0 -

Im with Scottish Power - 1Y fixed ends 30Jun. Currently paying £156pm (annual £1881) into an account that is increasingly in Credit - yet, SP want to move me to a 1Y Fixed at £555pm (annual £6555)! I have calculated my annual cost will be £3.9k (£327pm) on cap rates - so, SP's proposal is to increase my bill by £2633 over their online/cap tariff - +67%! Based on Martin's guidance I suspect the view is to go with their default rate and see how things go. To me, SP are taking advantage of a situation. I would be interested to hear other views though. Thanks0

As you don't give your usage data and rates offered we are not able to check your calculations.
The 1 year fix I find for Scottish Power has unit rates more expensive than the currently predicted October SVT.
I agree it is not advisable to take this offer, about 1p for gas and 3p for electricity above guesstimated October SVT rates. This is on the high side, but it a problem for most energy suppliers, after the latest prediction last week cheaper fixed tariffs have been withdrawn.
Keep also in view that currently a 51% increase for October is predicted.0
