I've been offered the following tariffs by British Gas:

According to their current estimates, the estimated annual costs are;  £986 + £980.  It looks as if the Exclusive Jul 23v2 deal is a deal to consider.  The £150 exit fee however puts me off. Any advice or opinions?
what have you decided? I have been offered roughly  the same tariffs, I calculated and it's a 35% increase compare to staying on variable tariff which is the limit that Martin is talking about on https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/utilities/-are-there-any-cheap--fixed-energy-deals-currently-worth-it--/ so I am still unsure as to whether take it or not
  • I was punted onto British/Scottish Gas when my former provider ceased to trade. They are offering me a Loyalty fixed rate of £3510.47 a year as opposed to a Standard variable rate of £2509.35 a year ( a fraction under 40% more). Given everything I’ve read here and elsewhere it seems a bit steep.

    I've been offered by BG
    Loyalty Jun 23v2
    £1571.07/year*
Switch to this fixed rate tariff
*We’ve estimated the annual costs based on your previous usage of 7506 kWh of gas and 1478 kWh of electricity a year

Which I think I'll probably take, unless anyone knows something better?
  • Hi, I would be grateful of help here.
I am with EDF who have offered me a fix at 35.65p for electric and 9.73p for gas with a £150.00 per fuel exit charge until April 2024.  This is an increase of 21% on our current rates. To me this would appear sensible to fix, but i wonder if there is a catch here and we would be better staying on variable?  Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

    Welcome to the forum👍

The gas price per kWh is very competitive looking at other deals out there as well as the electricity cost.

Between now and 1st October and the expect price cap increase you shouldn't be using too much gas and should be using less electricity as well but worth factoring the increase until then into your calculations.

The best thing is for you to be happy with your decision but make sure when calculating you know your yearly usage a d if you fix or not consider embarking on an energy reduction exercise with everyone that lives in the property as that will lessen the blow.

    >>9.73 p/kwh gas /EDF
i wish EDF were offering me the same rate!

The best they’ve offered me so far to get me off SV is 11.02 p/kwh; so I’m wondering why they are penalising me by comparison?

I also have elect from them and was fortunate to fix last Oct at 23p/kwh and SC 27p per day for 3 years until Sept 2024. Although this was a big jump from the 15p/kwh we have previously been charged I am really pleased I fixed when I did!

So I am wondering whether the reason they are offering me such a poor gas tariff to fix is to try and claw back some of their “loss” on my current electricity supply?   (Not that I use that much - my monthly electric usage is only about £50 inc VAT)
