What rates are you being offered by your provider at the moment?

Octopus do have several smart tariffs currently unrivalled by any other supplier.

Eon next is offering us this

Daily standing charge	43.75p	29.11p
Unit rate	40.06p per kWh (Day) 14.24p per kWh (Night)	7.40p per kWh
Assumed annual usage	2,005kWh	3,315kWh

No contract, we'd save roughly 200£ a year. I can't see a day/night rate on the MSE site, so debating about it, as it should be 30.72p / kWH

I fixed until May 2024 with EDF just before prices rocketed at:

Electricity: 35.32p per kWh
Gas: 9.738p per kWh
Electricity: 41.66p per day
Gas: 27.22p per day

Was feeling rather smug, until the government stepped in and fixed the max charges at similar levels.

I was preparing to find a new fix for July 1st (my annual bill was nearly £4K at these rates so ned some savings) and found that EDF are now (i.e. I can switch to it today) offering Standard Variable at:

Electricity: 30.90p per kWh
Gas: 7.538p per kWh
Electricity: 47.21p per day
Gas: 29.11p per day

Which gives me a saving of around £700 per annum (more than covering my £300 fixed exit fees)

I assume this Standard Variable rate is available to everyone now, and might be a good holding place to get reduced charges while waiting for more fixed rates to appear?

Is there any indication the companies will let people off the fixed rate exit charges if the government cap was set at/below their fixed rate (on the basis that we only fixed as we were told rates were going much higher)?

My Fixed is coming to an end with British Gas at the end of this month - I logged into my account and the below is on offer 

Exclusive Fixed Energy v29

Gas

Standing charge: 27.736p per day*

Unit rate: 7.132p per kWh

Electricity

Standing charge: 48.227p per day*

Unit rate: 28.105p per kWh

I was hoping to get peoples thoughts if this is worth taking up... I may wait till British gas gets in contact about my fixed rate coming to an end but just wanted some thoughts

The savings are not worth the time/stress  Martin said we should fix then the government bailed us out with caps anyway.

I'd be genuinely interested to know if there is evidence for this stance IF Octopus' ToU "innovative" tariffs are included in the analysis.

Didn't end up fixing - went next day to fix and found British Gas had removed the tariff offer off my account... Did try contacting British gas about it... but wouldn't let me fix... They said I'm stuck on the Variable Tariff at the end of June for the time being...

Didn't end up fixing - went next day to fix and found British Gas had removed the tariff offer off my account... Did try contacting British gas about it... but wouldn't let me fix... They said I'm stuck on the Variable Tariff at the end of June for the time being...

That wasnt a terrible deal provided it had no exit penalty.
