  • The EPG is not a rebate. It is a commercially agreed refund of excess money paid to purchase energy.  If your supplier has already hedged the energy you will use, they do not receive any additional money from the government by putting you on SVT.

It is not illegal and it is not immoral.
  • So Scottish gas offering me to move from :

    To that:

Do we think it is worth it???

  • Save 11.5p per day on standing charge, pay 1p more per unit for electricity and 0.25p more per unit for gas.

How much do you use per day?  Their estimates suggest almost nothing - which is why you would make a saving - but that seems very odd to me.
  • At first glance it would seem that Scot Gas is hardly being very generous at offering to sting you for 2 x £75 for the privilege of moving to a variable tariff where the saving on the basis of such a low (annual) consumption amounts to only approx £30 (variable). May be the EPG  influences the maths in a way that I have yet to latch onto. Or you anticipate a large increase in the consumption figures that they have quoted.

they probably want to check that if they are interested in the deal as we've seen other people with the same kind of emails who havent been charged exit fees to go to the svt. i think often the fees only apply if you leave the supplier not if you move off a fix to variable.

that estemated usage is rediculously low though. is it a garage or do you have solar or something?

It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?

Please consider buying some pet food and giving it to your local food bank collection or animal charity. Animals aren't to blame for the cost of living crisis.
  • I'd be reluctant to wager 2 x £75 just to find out which interpretation is correct. I reckon it's a south facing solar-heated garage with a turbine on top.

i was suggesting asking them to confirm if the exit fees would apply or not. because other people have posted that it was in the email but not applied for switching to the variable but staying with the supplier. so no wager. just having as much  info as possible before making a decision.

  • Very wise. It would be painful if you did not and found out that "other people's" experience was not universal.

I've just worked out that on my EDF Fix Total Service May 24 I'm going to be overpaying around £20/month...unless it goes up again in October

If I go for this and Martin's weekly email seems to suggest it's worth it, I'd be saving £17 per month. It's less than what I was paying from June last year at £94.
