If I go for this and Martin's weekly email seems to suggest it's worth it, I'd be saving £17 per month. It's less than what I was paying from June last year at £94.

That is entirely meaningless.  You need unit prices and standing charges - not the (almost random) assumed direct debit amount.

I'd echo that advice. It's a bit like comparing costs of a petrol / diesel tank full with a battery worth's kWh.
That said I'm wondering how practical it will be, when the time comes, to compare ML's (and other search engines) recommendations with Octopus's latest in innovative tariffs. Not for the faint hearted without AI

OK. I didn't know. Below are the unit price and standing charges for the

The tariffs below are taken from my April statement 2 April to 1 May. Since the government support ended I've been paying £105.18 monthly.

I'm with So Energy. Here is my current variable tarrif:

    So Flex

    £105 / month*

    £1256 each year*

Your current tariff until rolling monthly

    Estimated annual cost    £1256
Unit rate (Electricity)    32.90p per kWh
Standing charge (Electricity)    61.66p per day
Unit rate (Gas)    10.25p per kWh
Standing charge (Gas)    29.10p per day
    Start date    5 Jan 2022
    End date    rolling monthly
Early exit fees    £0 per fuel

And here is the fixed rate they are offering me:

    So Jasmine One Year

    £91 / month*

    £1091 each year*

    Fixed rates from 1 Jul 2023 - 30 Jun 2024.
    Estimated annual cost
        £1091
    Unit rate (Electricity)
        33.16p per kWh
    Standing charge (Electricity)
        37.23p per day
    Unit rate (Gas)
        7.22p per kWh
    Standing charge (Gas)
        28.05p per day
    Start date
        1 Jul 2023
    End date
        30 Jun 2024
Exit fees (from 14 days after signup)
        £75 per fuel

*Figures based on your estimated annual consumption.

The Unit Rate for Electricity would increase and the Standing Charge would decrease. The Unit rate for Gas would decrease as would the Standing Charge.

    Not sure what to do.

  • I am with Octopus. My bill for 1st April - 4th June was £412.45. I live in a One bedroomed flat and have had my heating off for about two months now. My last bill for March was only £240.61 Have prices really increased by so much?

Yes.  This is why everyone has been talking about energy prices for more than a year.
  • I'm with Nationwide. Zero% and no bonus. Go figure!

We weren’t either - but we have switched. The problem is that we only have certainty about the fix being lower than the July to October cap, not what happens beyond that point.

I think we’ll benefit from the standing charge being lower, because our usage is below average, which means the standing charge makes up a bit more of each bill.
