I'm a veggie and have been for years and always go to family but all I have is all the yummy veggies etc. They do me stuffing and gravy that's veggie and none of the roasts are cooked round the meat so I am fine to eat them. A plate full of that and I am stuffed and happy. :j
  • A suggestion is:

    Filo pastry, spinach and brie.

You get a portion of brie, wrap it in spinach, add some pepper, wrap the filo pastry round it, brushing it with butter.

    Cook it for 20 - 30 minutes

  • My first vegetarian Christmas too, I've only been one since August but I'm loving it - I have so much more energy, and feel generally healthier :)

I'm taking something to my mums on Christmas Day as she is a firmly commited meat-eater and has no idea 'how to cook vegetarian' (this from the woman who lives on cauliflower cheese, sigh). She's acting as if it's something weird and scary, so whatever I make I have to bring a large amount so she (and my sister, and nephew, and hubby I expect!) can try a bit too. We always have a hectic Christmas as Boxing Day is my M-I-Ls birthday and the day after is F-I-Ls birthday. M-I-L will cook something veggie for all of us - she does Jamie Oliver recipes and nothing else, but I'm sure he'll have something good - although she did suggest fish pie to start with >.<. F-I-L's new wife isn't a very good cook so I was worried about her feeling she had to cater for me especially (and there will be about 12 adults and 4 kids there that day) but luckily his sister has suggested an open house at her house wth a help-yourself buffet, which sounds excellent, and they'll have enough veggie things, I'm sure - they always put out faaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrr too much food :D

Has anyone sen the vegetarian Christmas magazine in the shops? It's LOVELY - I bought it and am currently working through the recipes one by one - sections include prepare ahead meales, eating out at home recipes from the chefs at The Gate restaurant, one pot meals (the chestnut & sage cobbler was yummy, the bobotie is in my fave meals folder now, and I'm trying the spicy lentil one-pot today, the mustardy sausage & bean bake tomorrow). There's a 'food for friends' section (serves 6), and a comfort food section - all with 4 - 6 recipes or so, christmas party nibbles, starters, a gorgeous looking festive tart (butternut squash, cranberries, blue cheese, walnuts...mmmm), and also desserts, puddings, cookies, mince pies, christmas cake, gifts, soups, pastas, under 30 minutes meals, and make and freeze meals as well. All for less than £4 I think (I've lost the front cover, it's been so well used already!) - and it's become my favourite 'cookbook' in a really short time!

Hope this is of some help for people - if anyone can't find it, let me know & I'll see if I can help.
Aww, now I'm hungry too! :D Merry (veggie) Christmas everyone!
  • I hadn't realised how lucky I am - my whole extended family (virtually) is veggie too!

This year, I'm going to my Aunt's house (who I haven't stayed with since I was about 10). She and my Uncle and all my cousins are veggie, but I might take a vegan version of the chestnut pie with me just so I feel like I'm contributing :-)

  • I'm a veggie too, have been practically my whole life. Spending my first xmas away from home. My friend always thinks the veggie food that i eat is what he would have as a side dish along with his meat (guess i should look forward to a plate of veggies)!!!
The receipes that have been suggested above sounds yum! will def have to try to make them.
  • Holland and Barrett still do the peanut loaf in a tin, but can't remember waht it is called. It's usually near the nut roast type stuff.
