Busy morning, wouldn’t post until I had something to tick off:
wm x 1 on the line, wm 2 is washing atm.
Bedding changed, all windows flung now open.
Drove to big town, filled DD’s car up with petrol, hopefully have sorted my glasses (thanks, Kaz, for the push), picked up a few ys whilst I was in Mr S.
Planted remaining broad beans at the allotment. So dry that it was almost impossible to dig, so I did the bare minimum and left. It’s apparently set for being the driest April on record.
Just stopping for lunch and a big drink of water, then it is bathroom cleaning.6 -
... skids in late as usual and sits at the back where no-one will notice I've missed a week ....Bathroom being spring cleaned as I type, 3 x WM all drying on the line, easy recipe for mushroom paté invented to use up stuff in the fridge and freezer, dog walked, large black cat played with, summer outdoor chairs brought down from the attic. Been a busy day.I also dodged a complete nightmare today, thank goodness. Had an enquiry for accommodation from someone with an American accent connected with a local academic establishment I have an excellent relationship with this afternoon. Nothing wrong with that, but I've had a couple of nightmare people with such an accent over the years and I'm cautious about accepting any more bookings from them. Not cautious enough, apparently, because it took me about 15 minutes after I put the phone down to remember she was one of the nightmares, 22 emails about one week's accommodation which she topped off with expecting me to find an emergency dentist for her husband on a Saturday morning at about 30 minutes notice. So I phoned her back, said I thought she'd be happier somewhere else and got a whole deluge of how hard it was to find accommodation here on her budget ... exactly the reason I don't want her in our house. My 'I think you'd be happier somewhere else' line is about as polite as I can phrase a refusal but boy did I have to break it down for her.In 29 years of letting rooms I can count on the fingers of one hand the number of people I'd never have back in the house again but she was one of them and her, 'If I can't find anywhere else [in my highly restricted budget in busy holiday bank holiday season] can I come and stay with you?' was about as manipulative as anyone's ever tried to be with me. The more of their problems these people try to convince me are my responsibility, the less I want them around me.I bend over backwards to help as many people as I can but I don't want someone that self-centered in the house for 16 days and nights. We can never, ever relax with them. Such a relief that I've learned how to be assertive at some point over those 29 years without losing my cool, but I did need to let off a bit of steam on here. Hope no-one minds.:curtsey: as we're obviously now Flying By Royal Appointment if the knitted lady is here to stay. Love it!Better is good enough.9

HB phew sounds like a lucky escape, and yes sometimes you just need to rant a bit.
Speaking of which one of my team at work is struggling a bit with stress and came to me today in need of a bit of reassurance and to let off steam. I think a lot of this is coming from personal stuff in her life but I really want to help, I hope I said the right things. If nothing else I was glad she can talk to me and I will keep an eye on her.
DS1 has just sent me a picture of a pub he is in, it was the place to be when I was his age and they used to pack people into their back room where there would be a disco every Friday and Saturday night. So strange to think I used to party in there and my son is now in there drinking!
So, busy day at the paid stuff again. Called at Li@l on the way home, it was quiet for once. Food budget has completely gone to pot, must do better next month. Really cold tonight so I am under my heated blanket but I have a new library book and we have YS hot cross buns for when DH gets out of the bath. Such a rock and roll lifestyle.
Err, Flying? I hung the washing out and brought it in. Oh and swished and swiped the worktops.9 -
Morning all. Hope you're all ok today.
Back to work for me today. So far I have got dressed, made the bed, put dry washing away, put another load in the machine and washed up. Going to wipe the sides in kitchen quickly before I start my shift.
Have a great day everyone.Spend less now, work less later.9 -
Morning, another one here who is only doing the minimums at the moment. House is still tidy and getting hoovered through at least once a week (to be fair we are only in the house 4 and a half days a week.
Bed stripped and in WM, windows open, it's cold but going to be a gorgeous sunny day.
Yesterday afternoon I ordered cat food, booked hair appointment and accepted trip to the theatre to see one of my favourite classic plays, now just need DD1 to get the tickets.
Need to lesson plan as am seeing a young man tomorrow for a couple of hours, it's exam preparation so nothing too challenging.
Next coffee whilst I check banking & spending

Morning all xx
Welcome aboard Smoosh 🙂
Curtsey to Her Majesty. You are so clever piggers xx
Usual minimun flying here after a stressful day at the paid stuff yesterday. Inhaling food when fraught has to stop.....before I 💥. Does a cherry on an iced bun count as 1 of my 5 a day? 🤔
I'll put out the recycling and feed the birds before I set off.
Love and good wishes to all

MorningCurtsey right foot behind left foot, dip at knee do not fall overHB, I don't think I would want this person in my house either, well done for saying no.Expecting the window man this morning, to fix the bedroom window (new catch) and put a new seal thing around the front door to keep the rain and draft out, say he will arrive am.....................so I'll will see what that actually means and no doubt it will mess up my day.Been contact by local radio station wanting to run a piece on my Falkland Forty challenge for May, so I'll see how that works out and if I want to do it, as I think they have a habit of twisting words and such like.Kitchen doneBedroom tidy for window manCat been fed, been out, and now are back asleep.Safe dayBreast Cancer Now 100 miles October 2022 100 / 100miles

Good luck with the radio interview Kaz. If it's due to go out live there's not a lot they can do about twisting your words and I've found, 'I'm not sure about that so it's probably better I don't comment on it' works with tricky questions. I did a series of interviews and other assorted publicity for the Foodbank during the pandemic, including for newspapers, and found that very little of what I said was used but generic stuff from the Trussell Trust appeared in all of them. I thought initally ot was a complete waste of the time and effort I put into researching the issues surrounding foodbank useage and donations but at least I'm better informed about what we do, and it gave the newspapers the opportunity to put the information out about what we do that the Trust actually wanted said out in the wider world. On balance I didn't harm the Trust and it might have done some good so it was worthwhile even considering how nerve-wracking I find it.Today I must dust, I really, really must. The reason the bathroom needed a spring clean was that the window that we open to ventilate it is southwest facing which is where the prevailling wind comes from and it's always the worst room in the house for dust as a result. The rest of the house isn't quite as grim but the telltale layer of 'furniture preserver' is now rather noticable. The trouble is all the dusters are in the washing machine. What a shame.Better is good enough.7
