Hi all,

So I just want to start off by saying that I know it is completely my fault, I was negligent in checking my document and take blame. I am seeking any possible remedies now.

So I am due to fly to Corfu next week on 28th April. However whilst checking in I saw the tick box stating that my passport needs 3 months on it before expiry, and checking my passport, it expires 02 July 2022.

I am now searching the web as to how to renew in short period of time. I see on the Gov website there is a 2-day and 1 week service, however neither have booking slots this side of the holiday.

I am now calling the embassy to see if there is anything else I can do.

I am also thinking of just turning up at the airport and seeing if they will let me through as I have nothing to lose now.

Is there anything else that I can do that people can advise me on? Or am I just to completely write-off this journey and take it as an expensive lesson?!

Many thanks,

Have you also checked the issue date of your current passport? If it includes any months carried over from the previous passport, you may not even have the 3 months between now and July.

My issue is 02 Dec 11! How do carry overs work? So without carry over, my actual expiry would have been Dec 2021? omg

Are you expecting to receive preferential treatment ?

On the Gov.U.K. website keep checking all locations as an appointment slot may become available. ( It May mean a last minute dash to another part of the U.K. )

Sorry but for travel to the EU including Greece your UK passport has expired as it is more than 10 years old and you won't be able to travel on your existing passport - except to Ireland.

If it is not picked up at the airport on departure it will be picked up on arrival in Greece. It really isn't worth going to the airport and hoping for the best - at worst you would end up in Greece stranded and have to return home anyway at your own expense.

Beyond keeping trying for an urgent appointment at your local passport office that is all you can do - but it will cost an extra £100 compared to a normal application. And there are no appointments in the next 3 days at all - or any for some time. With the bank holiday period coming up I don't see any appointments being released either.

Sorry - but you really now need to focus on cancelling the holiday and see if you can get a full or partial refund.  Because you have no valid passport for travel to Greece,

Sorry you are too late it has expired. Could you not change flight into the future after new passport arrives in approximately 10 weeks I have been told?

No. But I do know that enforcement is lacking sometimes when it comes to regulations. Maybe I'll slip through somehow.

But as someone else mentioned, I could get stuck on the other side, so perhaps that isn't the best idea.

And thanks guys, yes I am now on the website just continually refreshing hoping for someone to cancel!

And I cannot postpone the flight as this was for a wedding event :S quite bad I know

Which is quite scary for our Border Control that you are hoping to wing-it with an expired passport.  How long ago did you last fly?

Fingers crossed you can get a new passport quickly.

How do you "know" border arrangements are lax?

Your passport expired 5 months ago - I'd imagine it will get picked up when it's scanned at electronic gates if not with a physical check, and it will need to be lax in both the UK and Greece.

The airline won't allow you to travel.  If a passenger is refused entry at the foreign airport the airline will have the cost of returning the passenger to the UK and will be heavily fined.  You are not going to travel on the current, expired passport.
