Grocery Price Increases - What's the Biggest Hike You've Seen?

Jackie, You're right, corned beef isn't the cheap staple it used to be. I do buy it but get the SM's own label as it's much cheaper and just as good as the branded ones. At the moment it doesn't seem to be available round here (again!) but I can't bring myself to pay that extra 50p or whatever it might be, so once my last remaining tin has been used it will be off the shopping list for now.
I've been keeping a list of basic items that I buy regularly and tracking their prices. On that list 6 items have come down in price (I suspect that's because they're Aldi price matched), 12 have stayed the same and 15 have gone up. Overall, there's a difference of £1.76 more so perhaps not as bad as it could be. Of the ones that have gone up I've swapped to cheaper alternatives which saves £2.02 so in effect I'm saving a few pennies. Surprising, eh?Be kind to others and to yourself too.7 -
Iceland Naan Bread is the largest "increase" I've seen.
Gone up from 50p per pack of two to 89p. Although like a lot of Iceland increases it's still available at buy 2 for £1, so if you can buy in bulk you get the old price.

Bistro salad in A1di, used to be about 54p and has jumped up to 75p. Was one of the cheaper bags and lasted me most of the week. I'm now buying rocket, which lasts a week and is the former price of the Bistro at 54p.
Also, there BeLight crisps were 85p now 99p. So no cheaper than Seabrooks next door in H*meBargains.GC Jan £101.91/£150 Feb £70.96/150 Mar £100.43/150 Apr £108.45 app/150 May £149.70/150 Jun £155.15/150 July £123.74/£150 (includes food, toiletries and cleaning from 13th to 12th of each month. Not a grocery item but... petrol at my local garage was £1.57.99 a litre at 8.00a.m. when I drove into town and £1.60.99 at 9.30a.m. when I drove out of town on Wednesday.

The other thing to watch out for is the 'shrinking portions'. I haven't taken a scientific interest in it, but am convinced that Sainsbury's pre-packed vegetables that used to be (say) 250g are mow 225g. So it's not only increasing prices, it's also decreasing unit sizes.#2 Saving for Christmas 2024 - £1 a day challenge. £325 of £3669
