Which model IHD is that for? If it has an adjustable screen brightness could you test how the figure changes between maximum and minimum settings please? Thanks.nologo said:It's 0.6 of a watt

Each to their own of course, I’m sure I’ll have to have one eventually.Ultrasonic said:
I said pretty much the same before getting a smart meter. I have though found benefits, from the basic of it being easier for me to read my meters for my own records, to the instantaneous electricity display very occasionally helping me spot I've left something on unnecessarily. Seeing daily energy use can also help people be more mindful of what they use I think but equally if in the current climate this will be a source of stress then I can see a logic to switch them off to avoid this.Zandoni said:
I really can’t see any benefit of me having a smart meter, I already know which appliances use more power and I don’t leave anything on that isn’t necessary. I completely understand how I’m billed and the my use is pretty constant so the occasional estimated bill is pretty accurate.Ultrasonic said:
That's rather an argument to not worry about the power use. I bet we're talking <0.5 W.Zandoni said:The IHD is simply not accurate enough to notice the energy used by tiny power supplies, it will use a tiny amount just like any other small power supply you may have.
I see you're discounting any value of an IHD without having tried one. I made the same mistake.
My IHD has also given me a way to be more confident of the power use of some items (e.g. the saving in energy from switching WiFi off on my router when I don't need it). An IHD can of course just be turned on for the period when any such testing is desired rather than being left on permanently.
In summary, I don't think IHDs are universally pointless and I think it's a mistake to completely dismiss them without having ever tried one.
(Arguments for smart meters are a separate discussion which I'll leave for other threads.)0
