How much energy does the EON IHD use?

How much energy does the In House Display use either if left plugged in or to recharge if worked off battery?

A tiny amount. If you unplug it I bet you won't see the instantaneous electricity use figure change.

Hard to see it change if it is unplugged.   :)

But as far as I remember you can run them for months on battery, so it should be next to nothing.

Unless IHDs have changed recently, it is normally a few hours not months.

    @imcdonald5
    Which model IHD?

As I said, you look at it while you unplug it and see if the figure changes...

    EOn claim they use less than 1 Watt.  So, worst case is: 1 W x 365 * 24 / 1000 = 8.76 kWh per year.

Some plug in energy monitors might be able to measure that low if one really wanted to measure it, and over a few days' use might even get close to an accurate number on a cumulative total setting?

I've just remembered that my IHD has a screen brightness setting that I've put on the minimum to reduce its power consumption. Possibly something for others to check for if this hasn't been done already, and of course the IHD is still wanted rather than simply being switched off.

If switched off and gone flat, can you get back the data from the previous day/week/month etc. when you switch it back on?

If so, it may be an idea to just power it up and use it say, once a week, to check usage data, rather than being faced with scary £££ numbers everyday.
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.98% of current retirement "pot" (as at end April 2025)

I think there was a post somewhere today or yesterday with someone saying they had an issue because the battery in their IHD had gone flat? Not that this should be an issue if you do regularly still check it.

Occasionally having an IHD on the instantaneous electricity usage can be helpful to make someone realise they've left something on by mistake. That's where I generally leave mine.

yes, because the data is not stored on the IHD, but on the smart meter instead. The IHD is just a "dumb" display. Once it's switched on, it will get its data from the smart meter.

The Geo Trio II (according to the manual) has an input power requirement of 0.5W.
In standby mode, I would imagine the power consumption would be even less.

The Chameleon IHD which I think EON uses with some of their meters, consumes less than 0.6W including the mains adapter.
