How much energy does the EON IHD use?

The IHD is simply not accurate enough to notice the energy used by tiny power supplies, it will use a tiny amount just like any other small power supply you may have.

But for people really watching the pennies, then they have to weigh up the benefit of the IHD giving them useful information, or saving a handful of watts by turning it off.
If they have already nailed down a minimal level of consumption around their home, then the IHD become of less use, than for someone only just having a "lightbulb" moment around their usage. How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)0 -

EOn claim they use less than 1 Watt. So, worst case is: 1 W x 365 * 24 / 1000 = 8.76 kWh per year.
Some plug in energy monitors might be able to measure that low if one really wanted to measure it, and over a few days' use might even get close to an accurate number on a cumulative total setting?Someone please tell me what money is1 -

SAC2334 said:When the IHD s were first introduced the suppliers claimed usage figure of £1 a week. On that figure its gone up to £2.36 a week. With electricity at 28p/kWh that would be 1.2kWh a day, a constant 50W load. This seems unlikely.Others have suggested 0.5W as a typical powder draw, which would be under 5kWh (£1.40) a year.N. Hampshire, he/him. I am able read my smart meters using the IHD* (Geo Trio II) so maybe your customers were not as stupid as you make out.

All meters have to be safety checked including smart meters .When I was on the job BG had got it down to 5 years visit for smart meters
.Nowadays all suppliers have been given the choice to inspect a meter anytime they think a meter inspection is needed with no time limit .
Even smart meters can be bypassed .
There is a Youtube video showing how to bypass a prepayment meter which has been active now for 7 years and has 230,000 views. Youtube will not take it down because there is no complaint listed as "criminal activity " in the list of "report a video "0 -

I see you're discounting any value of an IHD without having tried one. I made the same mistake.0
