WiFi calling where no service available

Thank you flaneurs_lobster, I already have an iPhone, and it's on all the lists of compatible phones with all of the various providers.flaneurs_lobster said:

Yes, that was my first thought reading through this - I'm on Utility Warehouse (who share a customer service system with 1p Mobile as they're part of the same company) and it's not as much of a surprise as it probably should be that they'd answer a question that wasn't asked rather than the question that was, rather than just bare faced lying.k_man said:
Or just mistaken, or answering a different question.sully1311 said:Yea, the rep is lying.
Some working mobile signal is probably required to initially activate the SIM, or keep it active ongoing.
That is different to WiFi calling working without mobile signal.
Having working mobile signal for initial activation is how it goes on Three for certain, so wouldn't be surprised if it's the case on 1p Mobile too.
Having said all that:
This - particularly the first two paragraphs - is so true it's not even funny. With that in mind I probably shouldn't mention 4G calling, and how only EE and O2(well, Sky anyway, not sure about O2 itself) support the VoLTE icon in the status bar on Android handsets.flaneurs_lobster said:The provisioning of wi-fi calling by a particular carrier on a particular handset (or not) is complicated. I'm not surprised that most providers don't want to get into technical discussions via their customer service reps.
Most seem to take the attitude that it either works (good) or not ("we never said it would work").
If it's essential that you have it working then insist that it is demonstrated as such before a contract is agreed. This is obviously not always easy to do.0
