Price to the gas company I’m not using all this gas.
You are using all that gas though - you said this started with a broken boiler, so it's clear the boiler is using more gas than before (which, as others have said, could well be unsafe)

Nobody is going to give you a discount on your energy bill because your boiler is broken I'm afraid. I hope they can fix it soon!
  • I pay monthly DD with OVO energy. I have smart meters, but the in house display has worked for over six months. I can go on the OVO app on my phone and it tells me the consumption I use everyday. I on average use 30kwh daily, that is with the heating on for 12 hours. Now that used to cost £1.20ish per day. On Friday when the price hike was inplace I used 35kwh and was charged £2.60 that seems right the the hike. Then on Saturday when the boiler made funny noises, the engineer came out and said it needed a new part. I had my heating on for four hours on Saturday, that’s a third of my normal time and it used 85kwh at the cost of £7. Something is terribly wrong. The gas company said it’s not, the engineer said boiler isn’t causing it, so I’m at a loss. I’m severely triggered when people don’t listen to me. I know prices have went up, that’s not my issue, my issue is the amount being used. I live in a small one bed flat, I only have to boiler that’s gas. It’s been switched off ever since, as I can’t afford to pay £21 per day for heating. That’s what it would be if I had it on for 12 hours, as I was charged £7 for four hours. Can you see where I am coming from? That’s gravely wrong.

Did your landlord call out the boiler man ?

Without knowing what the boiler man found and what has to be replaced I don't think anyone can comment further.  But is too much of a coincidence that your gas consumption went up when your boiler went faulty  not to put 2 and 2 together

  • Exactly, that’s what I’m saying - it is too much of a coincidence! Yet the boiler repair man said that’s not causing that!! No one is taking responsibility. My boiler isn’t getting fixed till next week. I can’t put it on as I’m too scared of the charges. I had a cold shower this morning too.

Yes, thanks for the extra details, and good to hear that the boiler is turned off for now.
So really there isn't much more you can do until the boiler is fixed and you can see how much gas it is using when it is running again.
Do you have access to the actual gas meter?
If so then I would suggest taking a meter reading now as a reference point and do it again when the boiler is fixed and you can repeat that a day later...
Yes, the OVO app is helpful, but it is good to make sure that the meter readings match what you see in the app.
Your meter will measure gas use in cubic metres (m3) you can multiply the amount used by 11.2 to get a close approximation of the kWh. .

Everyone is listening to you but sadly you don't seem to be listening to us.
Your boiler is broken and it is using more gas. As well as being expensive, this could be unsafe and risking a gas explosion.
You need to turn off the gas and stop using the boiler until it is fixed.
Strictly, this is your landlord's responsibility.

Perhaps when the boiler man comes to do the repair he may revise his opinion.   In the meantime do keep warm, go to the Leisure Centre for a swim and shower.

Make sure you have taken meter readings. The numbers you are quoting are not meter readings just estimations so you need to read the meter not the home display.

People really hate admitting they are wrong - but hopefully the boiler and gas use will just come right after it is fixed!
