PkeSe can someone help me! My boiler broke on Saturday and since then the consumption of gas I’m using is three times my usual daily usuage. Before I averaged on 30KW per day with heating on for ten hours. I put it on, on Saturday and 4 hours used 85KW. I’m in a tiny one bedroom flat and have no other outlets of gas apart from the boiler. No one will help me snd I keep getting told it’s correct. Please someone help me. I don’t work and can’t afford this.

Welcome to the forum. Is your boiler still broken? Have you turned your gas off? Have you called out a gas engineer to fix it?N. Hampshire, he/him. Yes, but it can’t be fixed till next week. It’s not the price that’s the issue, it’s the amount of KE I’m using, it’s three times the amount I didn’t use before it broke and I only had it on a third of the time.0

OK, so it's broken but still works? *How* is it broken?

The point is that if your boiler is still broken, that it is the only gas appliance you have and you are still using gas then you have a gas leak. You should be turning your gas off and calling an engineer asap so your home does not blow up.karabash1994 said:Yes, but it can’t be fixed till next week. I don’t have a gas leak. It’s broken but still works. It’s not the price it’s the usage that’s tripled, how can I prove this0

It needs a new part, but still works. When I do use it it’s using an unprecedented amount of gas! No one will help me, everyone saying it’s correct and it can’t be. I’ve cried for two days now as I’m not being heard. I average on 30KW per day with my heating on for 12 hours. Now I had it on 4 hours and used 85KW to the tune of £7.0

How is it broken? Either your boiler is for some reason only working near full, at 20kW (which sounds dangerous, surely the water in the radiators would be boiling) or it isn't actually burning properly and there is a lot of unburnt gas escaping, (also dangerous). In either case the answer is to turn it completely off and STOP USING IT until the engineer comes. Yes, it will be cold.
But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.

I have no idea what you mean. It’s using 85KW of gas, I’m not talking about the heat from the radiators0

Prove it to who? Where are you taking usage readings from? Your supplier isn’t responsible for your broken boiler. If it is using excess gas, which I think is unlikely, then this usage will be metered and your supplier will charge you for it. If you are in a rented property, then this would be a discussion that you would need to have with your Landlord.karabash1994 said:I don’t have a gas leak. It’s broken but still works.
