As a consequence of masks no longer being worn on flights?
Easyjet, like BA is now using subcontractors to fulfill their flights, in my case it was Starlink from Alicante to Gatwick, and although the announcement was played multiple times over the plane audio system, stating that wearing masks was compulsory on the flight, nobody from the crew ever tried to enforce it, resulting in less than 5% of passengers wearing one.

A little of topic, but BA is also now subcontracting nearly all, if not all, their Gatwick - Alicante flights, to Iberia Express.
I find it terrible that you pay quite a price for one airline, to be flown on much older planes with a crew that  is not of the said airline. Is this a trend and is there something we can do about it?

many airlines are currently wetleasing / chartering other aircraft to avoid cancelling flights due insufficient crew etc. The t&cs of every airline allow this.

BA should tell you in advance of this IBX / BA swap and I believe do allow you to change flights if you do not wish to fly on the alternative.

As for the age of the aircraft, you may find it is younger in years than the BA one you might have flown on.

BA have leased in four IBX aircraft and full crews to operate ex LGW this summer.  Service on board is as per BA.

Other odd sub-charters also have been set up with airlines like Titan.  Cabin crew are also being bought in from LHR. All of this won't come cheap.

Zero sympathy for BA over this mess at LGW and the costs being incurred.  Perhaps they should not have been so quick to fire LGW crews then try to rehire cabin crew on lower salaries for a new Euro fleet.  Perhaps unsurprisingly few wished to return.  New starters (who they also are struggling to find, and keep at LGW) offered £15,966 pa base salary.   No wonder they are having to charter in other airlines to fly their (much reduced) schedule.
  • For info for anyone who has insured through Staysure , I asked if the insurance would pay out for a separately booked hotel in the event of strike , yes it would . I asked if it would pay out for a hotel separately booked in the case of airline cancelling the flight , no it would not . In both cases it is assumed bookings were made before strikes and cancellations became known .

I was surprised cancellation wasn’t covered as it seems this can happen at the very last second more or less and way beyond control but that is the written answer I have had .
  • British Airways denied compensation, blaming Heathrow. Anyone has a suggested course of action?

I was due to fly from LHR to OSL at 0730 on a Monday and got a text Sunday night at 2245 telling me my flight was cancelled. I spent a long time on the phone trying to get to an agent whilst checking the rebooking options offered by BA. Given the earliest they offered me was on Tuesday, I rebooked myself on a different airline and cancelled my flight.

I claimed compensation and the price difference with BA, which they denied saying it was due to Heathrow.

It's rather disgraceful and poor, has anyone else experienced this?
And is there a way to obtain compensation?
  • I used Martin’s template letter to apply to British Airways for the £220 pp compensation for a cancelled flight, along with recompense of out of pocket expenses.
I also followed Martin’s guidelines to the letter, and in under 2 weeks I got the FULL amount straight into my nominated bank account!!
Thank you Martin and team!! £630 is very satisfactory as full and final settlement!
