You are correct but I meant to say "why does everyone pay the same SC?" - it is suppose to pay for transportating power to homes - less power = less costs - surely??brewerdave said:
Eh ? EVERYONE pays the same standing charge - that's why low users are upset by the big increases !!MouldyOldDough said:
You can't use your standing charges on a low user like mebrewerdave said:

I use less power so lower standing charge

No. You don't get smaller gas pipes or thinner electrical cables installed because you used less energy.MouldyOldDough said:

No idea how you manage such a low direct debit being indoors 24 /7 .Saying you pay x amount per month does nt tell the whole story but can you tell me how many electric and gas kwh s you use per annum . I m paying £120 a month and an very careful tooMouldyOldDough said:I don't understand how people can pay more than 4 times what I am paying for power
How can someone use so much energy?
We pay £45 per month for electricity and gas (just increased from £25 dd) but are never cold or lacking any light
We don't cook over an open fire or heat water on a paraffin stove
Our 3 bed house is insulated and double glazed avd we are in 24/7
40cu m gas per month
And I receive WHD (£145)

I ve done a back of a fag packet quick estimate and it works out on those low usage kwhs on the new rates you should be paying approx £70 a month .Maybe you re underpaying ? .Total of approx £1000 a year less WHD .That is on approx 900 kwh electric and 5500 gas kwh s ..Still good going on these new super high rates though ..7.5 gas and 30 p kwh electric are my new rates todayMouldyOldDough said:

Cost until yesterday would have been already £50pm, and from today onward in the region of £70pm.1 -
Have you taken WHD into account?pochase said:

Hang on, you are complaining about standing charges, but you get the Warm Home Discount, which is funded from standing charges, with the net benefit to you being paid for by the rest of us.MouldyOldDough said:

Because most people don't know how many units it would take to power a lightbulb for an hour.MouldyOldDough said:Mstty said:Most people don't understand units charges so they have broadly put it in terms for pence and pounds as an average for the average user.Sorry - but why don't people understand unit charges ? I would have thought that that is a simple way of calculating energy use .x uses y energy per hour - simple.
Or power their TV, washing machine, fridge... and what typeof lightbulb? An LED one? An old one? Energy saving? And the 4W bulb in that lamp is different to the 6W one in the ceiling lights - I probably have about 7 different types around my house - are you saying I should know the cost in units per hour for each one?
Yet people can understand they'll have to pay a lot more these days and that value is so unlikely to go down, it's not worth thinking about.1 -
To be fair, nobody needs to know this detail and all the calculation you quoted requires is an understanding of total usage.anotheruser said:
