Eh ? EVERYONE pays the same standing charge - that's why low users are upset by the big increases !!MouldyOldDough said:

Standing charges are fixed, they do not vary based on how much you use.MouldyOldDough said:

The figures do not add up regardless of insulation, even a ZeroHouse would use more electricity than the OP states they use (although a lot may come from a solar and possibly wind insulation) as things like a fridge-freezer and even a basic level of civilisation require some usage and with standing charges to take into account the numbers do just not add up.Chrysalis said:
There is part of your answer, not everyone has double glazing and not everyone has good insulation.MouldyOldDough said:I don't understand how people can pay more than 4 times what I am paying for power
How can someone use so much energy?
We pay £45 per month for electricity and gas (just increased from £25 dd) but are never cold or lacking any light
We don't cook over an open fire or heat water on a paraffin stove
Our 3 bed house is insulated and double glazed avd we are in 24/7
My cold air draft is horrible, I dont even bother heating now as so much of it would be wasted.
As to the rest of it, probably habits, then also the question of my own very unpopular opinion of how accurate everyone's meters are.
I think one problem of the current regulation, fixed DD's etc. is many people simply dont know what they using, they havent really cared up until recently and even now arent really investigating but just looking at their DD's.0 -
It is 1st of April, I suppose.MouldyOldDough said:

Most people won't understand until they recurve their first bill.
I get why there is so much noise because some are already on the edge and everything seems to be going up with incomes remaining the same.
Crime will likely go up at this rate.0 -

In my case the electric SC has increased 82%, the gas SC just over 4% but the electric has increased from 20p to over 28p and the gas from 3.9p to 7.28p. I was paying Avro, now octopus £48 per month, I had overestimated my usage with Avro by 20% and as I have a credit of £265 I wont have to increase the DD for around 10 months as my monthly bill would be under £57 at the new rates.
In my opinion the new SC's won't decrease when the money has being recouped from all the firms going bust the energy companies will find a way of keeping the increased rates and that includes the 11p increase payable from next April when we start paying back the £200 loan.Someone please tell me what money is1 -
No idea how you manage such a low direct debit being indoors 24 /7 .Saying you pay x amount per month does nt tell the whole story but can you tell me how many electric and gas kwh s you use per annum . I m paying £120 a month and an very careful tooMouldyOldDough said:I don't understand how people can pay more than 4 times what I am paying for power

Is it though? Why not argue for a more universal good quality of life? Do I really need my living standards to have increased since say 2000?agentcain said:
The whole point of today's humanity is to progress further. To make life increasingly easier for everyone!
I think the apparent expectation of year-on-year improvement is unhelpful, both environmentally and psychologically (for when it doesn't happen).2
