Hindsight is a wonderful thing @MartusJK - It'll do for what I need it for. I had to resend my ID etc so I can't see why it wouldn't be universally accepted. If I remember right, to upgrade to a full licence you don't need additional ID.
Good luck with finding a solution.MSE-ing since 20070 -

Same boat as OP, don't have any photo ID, never had a problem opening accounts before. There appears to be no alternative with Chase, it's photo ID or nothing. Fair enough that's their business model, presumably they don't think there are enough people without photo ID to be worth offering an alternative.
One thing does puzzle me though. They apparently don't need to see your original passport or driving licence, only an uploaded photo of it. How do they know it's genuine proof of ID and not a fake? I used to work for a large organisation and they would never accept copies of ID, only originals. Or are Chase able to verify passport and licence with the relevant government agencies?

Also, I dont know the exact process so correct me if I am wrong but with an online passport application process you submit your picture and associate it yourself with your personal data, the passport people dont actually seperately verify your picture in any way? if so is it such a strong confirming aspect of ID? Is it much more conclusive than if I simply sent a picture of myself with a bank statement or other personal documentation?

https://www.gov.uk/confirm-identity-online-for-passport-applicationThe Government have the resources to process such information, to follow up individuals who make such confirmatory statements, and prosecute those who make a false statement, whereas a financial services company would itself be liable to prosecution if it waved people through without such infrastructure in place.Given that we will now be required to have photographic ID in order to vote, we are headed for interesting times. It would have been so much easier if there hadn't been so much resistance to national ID cards previously.3 -
MartusJK said:Hi there, you might have seen details of this new savings account on MSE. Great I thought, I will have some of that, sounds easy, just get the app, register and away you go.... but then I came up against a barrier I have expereinced in other financial matters, you see I dont drive or have a passport, and no "photo ID", no application possible. I checked with them on the phone, I offered all sorts of other ID that has (eventually) worked for other things, like NI number, Birth certificate, bank statements, utlity bills etc etc, but no, its this driving licence or passport or no go. So my first question is whether this is some sort of unfar discrimination? And surely I am not the ony person not bothered by foreign travel or driving (actually I reckon I should be given preferential treatment for my contribution to reducing pollution/climate change etc!) so how do others get around this? (yes I know I just could fork out £75 for a passport but its getting to be a point of principle for me now, why should I have to do that when there are so many other verifiable and easily checkable sources of my ID especially online these days?).0
