I too have no Photo ID. But I can understand why they require it, so I'll just bank elsewhere.

Maybe for some people this is not a bad thing, you are off the grid so to speak.

With these some apps they must have your biometric data, that’s facial, vocal, and finger print data. Think about that for a moment -big brother can watch if he wants to, does he need a warrant?

I suppose the point I am really making is someone like Chase is not bothering to cater for someone like me,...
They aren't bothered about people who don't have a smartphone or a tablet, either, or about those who want a bricks & mortar bank, or about people who want a loan or an overdraft, or people who want a joint account or an ISA. None of this is discrimination. It's simply a business decision which they are free to make.

I have never had to upload a photo id to open a new financial product ( although I did for the NHS app)

Is this because I have not opened a new product for about 18 months and the use of photo id has become a lot more prevalent in the meantime ? Or is it because I have never opened an app only financial product ? Although I have apps for pensions etc that I originally registered with via a webpage.
Yes i think this has definitely become a new thing quite recently, as i said the lack of any photo ID didnt bother me for many previous years, and I am sure I must have done the odd thing that required ID in that time. I have the suspicion that in recent times some companies hit upon this as a quick, simple - and near univeral way to check ID  - and now a lot of them have followed, I am rather dubious that this saves them signifcantly, as much to affect say interest rates but it simply makes it easier for them, but to the detriment of people like us

I bet you haven’t sold or bought a house in that time period. Photo ID eg driving licence comes in handy when you are dealing with solicitors, estate agents, and even scraping your car.

It also comes in handy when your old bricks and mortar bank ask you to appear in Branch with ID. This has happened to many people and can happen to anyone at any point in time.

I also need to show ID when I have to pick up a parcel that couldn't be delivered, or if I prefer to have my parcel delivered to the pick-up point in the first instance. So do all the people in front and behind me in the Q.

Not having a photo ID is a lifestyle choice for most of those who don't have such an ID.

Ordering booze from amazon you will likely need photo ID for the courier driver, so what’s more important then that.

The cost of a UK provisional driving license is £34. If the differential in interest in the year from the next best savings account (Currently Virgin Money 1% ? I think ??) is more than the £34 then surely it'd be worth your while getting the photo id?

That leaves aside the future convenience of having photographic identification and your comments on points of principle as those are individual and hard to quantify generally.

Whilst my posts do not constitute financial advice, I am always, without fail, 100% right! :D

In my case it's not really a deliberate choice as such, it's just something I've never needed.

For those looking for photo ID, I am/was in the same boat. No passport and I don't drive. I had a provisional licence years ago but it's lost/out of date. You can apply for a licence fairly easily but please bear in mind the longer DVLA wait times at the moment. I posted my application at the beginning of January and I'm still waiting.

Like everywhere else the DVLA are struggling with staffing/absence issues.
Just something to think about if you are hoping for new ID sooner rather than later.

yes I did look into getting a provisional driving licence as i was selling my place, just like you mine had run out, but after many gruelling interchanges with DVLA it transpired my entry on their computer "had become corrupted" and I had to do a completely new application using long winded old style hard copy submission, and with covid etc the wait for processing that was "many months" so I gave up at that point, I wish i had kept going I might just have it by now! (though as someone pointed out not sure if provisional will be accepted by everyone for ID purposes)
