I was accepted as an Octopus customer on the tracker 10 days ago which go s live on 27 th June . If it starts to be too expensive I can bail out onto their SVT. I simply emailed them and got a reply the following dayAlnat1 said:Double, have a look a Octopus Tracker v3. It's not exactly a fix but there are limit caps on the amount they can charge of 40p/kWh electric and 11p/kWh gas. The price changes daily depending on the wholesale prices so it's quite different to what we're used to.
It might not be for you but could be one of the cheapest options over the coming winter.
Meanwhile I m looking out for referrals and have got 2 people looking to join me on the tracker who are starting their switch to Octopus .The £100 referral fee I look upon as a discount on my gas bill this coming winter .0 -
The only flaw in the plan is that the market for fixed rates is getting more expensive.double_dutchy said:
I'm on SVT with Octopus but they don't seem to offer any competitive fixed rates. I'm considering switching to EDF on SVT and then subsequently trying to get a fixed deal with EDF as an existing customer, if they offer anything decent.EDF and Octopus are taking on new customers on SVT if you call them. Seems Octopus is getting hesitant to do so as you might need to call several times until you find an agent who will let you do this.
What's the flaw in my plan?
The recent announcement by Martin Lewis on twitter suggests a higher than expect price cap rate on October of £2980.
It will take some time to switch supplier and by then I suspect all good deals will be gone.
I think you may be trapped and perhaps you should consider the tracker v3 unless you have or are getting an electric vehicle then GO would be your best choice.0 -
OK, thanks all.
I don't have an electric vehicle and don't expect to have one any time soon, so I'll have a look at the tracker v30 -
Is that Tariff capped by the Govt.?Alnat1 said:Double, have a look a Octopus Tracker v3. If suppliers not accepting new customers on SVT then these customers stay put, don't switch and they get moved onto the SVT tariff with their existing supplier right?pochase said:

You can only switch to a fixed tariff from a new energy supplier not a SVR standard variable tariffs which are only for existing customers only?
There are no reports that any of the other suppliers will accept new customers on SVT.
All SVT capped tariffs by all energy companies are similar in price correct?0 -

.
They aren't offering me anything decent for gas only, just a 24 month fix with £100 early exit fee & a rate that is probably close to what SVT will be anyway.0 -
The ISS is upgraded with 30% solar panels, But you won't see them on any home roof for 10+ years.

I asked Octopus if I could switch to the tracker. They sent me a link which allows me to switch but there's a section where I need to read and agree to the terms and conditions.....but these are blank! I've replied to Octopus to say I can't sign up without seeing the terms and conditions, can they fix the problem or supply them some other way.Alnat1 said:Double, have a look a Octopus Tracker v3. In the meantime does anybody here have a link to the current terms and conditions?
The standing charges are currently lower than SVT at 18.522p electricity and 15.0885p gas and my understanding is that the caps can be changed but they'll give you 30 days notice so if you don't like it you can switch back to the SVT with no penalties.
I'm tempted to try it out, especially starting in the summer when I'll be using very little gas anyway0 -
In the end I emailed them asking for Tracker v3 and confirmed I understood how the account worked and that I knew prices would change daily depending on the market price.
They got back to me a few days later confirming I had been changed over.Barnsley, South Yorkshire
