RBS to Atom - The sort code you entered doesn't look quite right

I have opened an Atom Instant Saver account. But when I try to set up a payment from RBS (app and web) I get
The sort code you
entered doesn't look quite right. Please try again.
The sort code is 04-40-01 which look OK on Sort Code Checker. Anyone else seeing this before I call RBS?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Credit Cards, Savings & investments, and Budgeting & Bank Accounts boards. if you are certain that you used the correct sort code and account number, just ignore their message and make your payment.
If you feel responsible, you can tell them that their sort code DB is out of date. Don’t expect they will do anything about it though0 -
NB. You can also do what many people have done for years: send a small amount to your new payee first, and once that has arrived, you know for absolutely definitely that you have set up the payee correctly.
FWIW, I use 04-40-01 for Atom, too, as it’s their sort code…..0 -
Account name check certainly doesn’t work with Atom. I always do a £1 transfer with any new account to test it. Atom FPS seems to be pretty much immediate too.0

That's the sort code I use too, albeit RBS is not my linked account to Atom.
Try a small deposit and see if it goers through.
Or are you saying that RBS will not allow you to progress through the screens/pages to process the payment as they do not recognise it?0 -
Actually, I take back what I said about the DB RBS are using. The ‘problem’ lies with Atom, who are not part of the COP scheme. So calling RBS would make no difference. Rest of what I said stands
This is from Atom:

Thanks for your replies. I do get the warning that the account can't be verified (which I'm OK with, and yes I'd try a small transfer first). Then challenge is that RBS won't let me add the payee at all. If I click Next it just comes back to this screen
If that sort code is correct looks to be an RBS issue I think? Have you been able to make payments to other banks who aren't in the CoP scheme ?
It was initially rolled out to the 6 biggest banks and building societies (Barclays, HSBC (including First Direct), Lloyds, Nationwide, RBS and Santander) but I'm not sure if the scheme has extended any further. I'm fairly sure that the majority of payments I've made to the smaller 'challenger' banks like Atom have failed the CoP check.
I was able to make a small, initial payment to an Atom Fixed Saver account from my Barclays current account without any sort code issues so it sounds like you'll need to get in touch with RBS to find out what's going on. Paying larger amounts into the Atom account became an issue though and this was only resolved after a phone call from Barclays' anti-fraud department.0 -

According to faster payments' sort code checker it's fine. Perhaps a database that RBS is using for its own verification is incorrect?

I've encountered exactly the same problem as the OP, except I was trying to make an initial transfer from a Natwest account rather than RBS. It doesn't seem to recognise the sort code, there is no option to proceed on the transfer page.
I've not encountered this problem before when sending a payment to any other bank (including various challenger banks).0
