  • Hi,

Will do my best to anwser your questions:

    1. The energyhelpline and swiitchandgive.com websites are sister sites. We started switchandgive first. When anyone uses eneryghelpline the url reverts to switchandgive.com as they hit the site. This is nothing for anyone to worry about - it's just that on the current builld one url interacts with the database and SSL certificates and as switchandgive.com came first it is this one.
If anyone has any worries about us paying cashback please feel free to email us at help@energyhelpline.com and we will ensure that your switched is coded correctly in our database and your cashback is paid.

    2. About switching regularly to keep getting cashback. You could do this realistically every 2-3 months as they are all 28 day contracts and it takes you 4-6 weeks to switch

    Kind regards,

    Mark :)

    Note re: Telecom Plus

All posts referring directly or indirectly have been removed. This rule is being strictly adhered to. There is to be no discussion of TP in this thread. The reason is simple and it happened - as always an argument started.

Let me clarify - it doesn't mean no TP distributers can post in here. They're welcome, just no direct or indirect mention of TP. This applies to the detractors as well as the supporters.

This thread is here to discuss changing, many newbies who don't give a flying leap about TP read this. I refuse to have it hijacked by a discussion about one company. There is a separate area for that - please discuss it here

As for this thread - my view on TP is in the article. It is a valid tariff but not always cheapest, but should be included in the comparison. It's my prerogative to keep it there. Please respect these rules. If someone starts posting about TP in here, please report it to the moderators and it will be deleted.

Please don't discuss this post here either - just carry on with the non-TP chat

  • From energyhelpline.com / switchandgive.com.

In terms of non-standard tariffs the only one we have listed as that is Telecom Plus. This is because it charges a membership, has clawbacks on discounts and a number of other quirks that are unusual and hidden in the small print.

Every other tariff on the site is listed as a standard tariff.

There are other distinctions like green, online, etc. but these are all still listed under standard. :)

ScottishPower have a lot of tariffs hence we list a lot - Online, Standards, several Capped ones, H20, Green, etc. But we also list all the tariffs of other companies eg. Scottish & Southern who don't have a contract with we list 9 tariffs made up of their 3 brands and Standard, Air Miles Super and RSPB for each. And for eg. npower we list their Standard and Juice tariffs.

    Kind regards,

    Mark

  • Dear newit2,

On energyhelpline.com (and being independent also uswitch.com) there are usage estimators if you don't know what your last bill was.

On energyhelpline.com just check the boxes saying 'I don't know my usage' then either use the simple estimator (low/medium/high user) or the detailed estimator (a few questions about cooking, rooms and insulation) then we'll estimate your usage and thus potential savings from switching.

    Hope this helps :)

  • Hi,

A couple of other questions from earlier in the post:

    1. London Energy / SWEB / Seeboard are all owned by EdF and they bizarrely do not seem to be making their online tariff available on their website. I think they are instead trying to get customers onto their standard tariffs using their 'Price Promise' advertising that they are now doing vs. British Gas prices.

    2. Powergen only let us at energyhelpline.com switch customers to them if they do not use Powergen currently for any fuel. That's why sometimes Powergen isn't available on the site :(

    Kind regards,

    Mark.

Quick note - while technically energyhelpline posting does break the rules. Providing Mark isn't plugging as he's answering direct questions about his site switching - i think it's a good thing, so i'm happy with it

Still no idea what to do (see my post above and you'll see what I'm on about) I'm very confused re switching
    :p
  • I am nervously trying to change my gas and electricity.
Has anyone had experience of 'country wide energy' for gas? Atlantic seems best for me for electric but they are now part of SSE - is this going to mean a price hike soon?

I keep reading about capped rates but mine are all standard tariffs should i worry? as Martin says, i am sure i will be saving something anyway.

PS..... spoke to USWITCH the other day by phone and they asked very few details and gave limited info about suppliers. I had done some research and was surprised they advised me to change to one that has not featured im my calcualtions. It turned out to be a very expensive option when i checked back on the other comparison sites - are uswitch on commission or just badly trained? Thanks to MSE for suggestion looking at more than one comparison site!
    Waddle you do eh?

just switched to Powergen after using the recommended link "Energyhelpline/Cashback*"

and was expecting £20 cashback to me.

But subsequently reading the full article. it appears that the link I was directed to pays cashback to some undisclosed charity
(the link gets redirected to switchand give.com without warning you)

    A bit misleading Martin ??!!

I also noticed that the web address that comes up when I use the link says SwitchandGive ??? ??? ??? I switched to Powergen on Monday, & also changed my mothers supply to Powergen for her. I use Opera as a browser, I have cleared the cache & history but if I enter https://www.energyhelpline.com it immediately changes to https://www.switchandgive.com ??? ??? also tried deleting the history, cache & cookies & used the link from your site & it still jumps to switchandgive, what's happening it doesn't give any warning you are being re-directed ???

Many thanks for the info. I'll give them a go and see what's what.
