Who is impressed by the car somebody drives, or thinks the car they drive impresses anybody else?1 -
Thanks all. Moey is also limited and these awful battery cars are not for me.
Thinking more about I'd love the new shape GLE 7 seater but dont have the 44k plus for a used 7 seater that is almost 3 years old.
I think I'm falling for the X5 as has 7 seats and decent ones around 17 plate and 7 seaters FSH from a good dealer is about 33k with pan roof etc.
Thanks again0 -
Doesn’t matter what car you have, there will always be someone with a better car than you unless you’re elon musk or Jeff bozos.Unless you’re trying to pull birds then what’s the point?1

That's the key question.... To me "flashy" and "classy" are opposing criteria. Classy is subtle.
I agree with iwb - in most cases a BMW or a Benz is no longer exclusive; especially if it's an SUV. You can just get away with a large executive saloon to imply you are being driven in it. Tesla does have some exclusivity and badge snobbery.
Consider the Bentley Bentayga... Brilliant engineering, great performance and luxury. Certainly tells the world you have money. Is it classy, though? Not to me. (Not to mention damn ugly). An old (60s or 70s) Bentley is classy. But not necessary the most practical option.
Off-the wall idea.... Mustang Mach-E. Don't know if it's in the price range yet but it's rare enough to be interesting. Respond to those who say "It's not a real Mustang!" by claiming to be getting a 60s one as a weekend toy but it's being restored for you....I need to think of something new here...3 -
I just meant these cars are so common they just aren’t getting second glances. They are just run of the mill. Albeit expensive ones.Manxman_in_exile said:

If so, are you not at all concerned or aware about the cost of living crisis soon to be upon us?
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 3.24% of current retirement "pot" (as at end December 2025)2 -
If OP wants seven seaters then this is carwows ranking of best options. I’d look at reviews and sit in some cars rather than blindly chasing a badge. Also cost second hand options up.

I have always associated Mercedes with Eastern European taxis. Not something I would want to be seen driving.#2 Saving for Christmas 2024 - £1 a day challenge. £325 of £3660

Go for the X5 then. You only live one and all. But just be aware that if money is tight now, it's going to be a lot worse when you're running a 5 year old X5 even when you're just dealing with consumables.
