A spontaneous summer evening out sounds lovely 🌞
Yes, it was definitely a lovely evening and a nice change of scene/pace.
I've finished my work for the day now (I may have had a nap after I got back from cycling to see the cat in the heat of the day), so I'm going to enjoy the shade in the garden for a bit.Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

Morning all,
So... I've just paid off our mortgage! Whoop! 🥳🥳🥳🥳
Disappointingly, it's going to take 13 days to actually sort it all out (and it's still showing as a balance on the app), but what can you do? And there's still the small matter of £6.5k on a 0% CC, but that'll be sorted soon too. We did borrow £800 from the EF, but realistically, as this is about a month's mortgage payment (or will be soon, the way rates are going), this isn't a priority to put back as we won't have that outgoing anymore.
I can't quite believe it! 11 years, 3 months and 8 days in total, £132,500 (less the £6.5k). (When do I add myself to the MF roll of honour - when the last bit has gone?)
Obviously, I'm not going anywhere (ever, probably), and I won't start a new diary until this pesky CC money has gone, but we are officially mortgage-free!
As I've just said on NG's diary, given the current rising interest climate, I feel strongly that despite the naysayers who argued that you shouldn't overpay when interest rates are so low, that we have definitely done the right thing. We now don't have to worry about rising interest rates and the crippling cost of the mortgage.
In all likelihood, as regular readers will know, we're unlikely to be here forever, so this isn't likely to be our last mortgage. However, it definitely gives us options and in the next six months/year, I think we'll be having serious discussions about what our plans are for the future. That being said, maybe Mr MV will enjoy not having the pressure of a mortgage to pay when his job gets carpier than normal and appreciate that he could just walk out. We'll see...
In the meantime, 🥳🥳🥳🥳! (Given that we've stretched ourselves to pay it off and had takeaway and eaten out this week already, this may be the extent of the celebrations until next week, when it's also our wedding anniversary!)

Fantastic news
Seaweed x5 -
Oh hooray!!!!! 🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆 I am SO pleased for you, what a fantastic achievement!! I'd add yourself to the roll of honour now! We paid off our last house and it was SUCH a fantastic feeling to have no mortgage for a couple of years (I look back on those days with much fondness now 🙄😂)
How will you celebrate??5 -
Thanks Seaweed and Cheery!
It is a fantastic feeling! 😊 Celebrations? I've no idea if we'll do something a bit fancier (my Mum has been muttering about giving us some money - she's trying to even things up between me and Sis who *needed* the money - I have pointed out we don't need it!), so perhaps we'll use a little bit of that for a nice meal when we're on holiday (either in Yorks or in Greece), but for today, I've been to M&S (to return unneeded swimming costumes) and picked up a nice looking beer (chocolate caramel cookie) and two 'billionnaire's yumnuts' - I think this might be overegging it a bit, but they look tasty! 😂Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

So, today's update.
I'm currently sat next to a very hot and stretched out Ginger cat, who is thoroughly fed up with the weather. Have been to visit cat client and down to M&S as mentioned above.
Have picked up a couple more cat sitting jobs for existing clients, including another month for the lady I did long term stuff for last year. I'll be sharing that with my cat/Olio friend again.
Workwise, I'm onto the last of the existing work for my main client, although I suspect there's more in the pipeline from him too. Dinner will be something with broad beans as we need to use the last of last week's veg box contents up.
MS things:
* Clicks, HW and comps done (no wins today)
* Harvested some strawberries, radishes and broad beans from allotment this morning. It's going to be a non-cucumber year though as the cuke I'd planted on Wednesday has sadly shrivelled and died
* It was 2 for £2.75 on the yumnuts? (I feel this definitely qualifies as money-saving-after-mortgage-freedom in terms of actually how much it has saved me! 😂)
* Unneeded swimming costumes returned
* Cycled so no petrol costs
Gratitudes:
* Sunshine
* Mortgage freedom!
* Yumnuts to enjoy
Have a good afternoon all!Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

Madvix, how wonderful! Many, many congratulations, you've done so well!
*Checks upthread* - only just over 11 years! That's a momentous achievement.
ETA - I can understand your mum wanting to give you some money - I think there's a subconscious thing sometimes of not just giving because an offspring needs it, but partly to be fair, and partly because the offspring has shown how sensible they are with money. If she offers seriously, I hope you'll accept - you've as good as told us that you'll move one day, you could put her money aside for that. Still, the main thing - congratulations!2023: the year I get to buy a car7 -
Oh wow that’s fantastic well done! 🍾🥳🎉
So much effort over so many years has paid off, congratulations 😊 have a fantastic weekend celebrating, all the best xxxMFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁3 -
Thanks Karma!
Yes, with Mum (and MIL) it's all about being fair (although in mum's mind, we'd take the money off of Sis's inheritance when the time comes (assuming that it's not all gone on care home fees or other such matters). While I have made it clear we don't need it, she's made it clear it's coming anyway. While it's a substantial amount day-to-day, it's not really enough that it would make much impact on a future purchase. I think we'll probably put most aside in savings, but possibly also put some towards taking Niece and Sis to Disneyland Paris (a long-term plan of mine) - so we'll all benefit ultimately (including Mum as she'd be invited too) (Mr MV may dispute that this is of benefit to him 🤣 but he's never been and I think he should go!).Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days
