The asda mince made a very nice pie filling too. It did two of us two meals each with potatoes and veg. The chicken was nice with boiled rice and a few frozen veg to bulk it out between the two of us.

M&S stewing steak is nice but more expensive. Their chicken in white sauce makes a good pie or pasta bake too.4

My mum always swore by Fray Bentos stewed steak but can’t get it anymore so now it’s Sainsburys or M&S 😊MFiT-T7 #17 (Jan 2025) £193k (Apr) £177k (July) £

I'm not a fan of tinned stewing steak, mince etc but it may be a thought to have a couple in for Justin.
I've re-stocked on bread flour and yeast, not huge amounts but enough for our needs for a while.
I've been reading that SMs are currently limiting how many bottles of cooking oil customers can have per shop. I usually have one in use and only buy another when that's almost finished but it's not a "must" for me so if I get a spare that's fine, if I don't it's equally fine.Be kind to others and to yourself too.5 -
I have couple of tins of meat in my tin cupboard which I bought before Christmas in case of bad weather, one is an Asda's chilli beef, and the other is a Sainsburys chicken in wine sauce. both of which can be made into pies or pasties. They have really long dates on them so maybe when my freezer is run down a bit more I will turn them into some pasties to eat with salad when the weather gets a bit warmer.
I have been finding lots of odds and ends in my tinned cupboard store which I shall be using up over the next few weeks.

We love tinned stewing steak. When we are really lazy,we will open one, along with a tin of oxtail soup, tinned peas and carrots and a tin of potatoes. We like to add a hint of curry powder too. Serve with some nice bread. It saves fuel too.9

With all the news about shops limiting oil sales i went into the basement yesterday to check our supply, obviously we are abit of a exception as we stock a deep pantry.
We don't have any sunflower/veg oil, but we don't generally use it. I use olive oil for a majority of cooking and then use some Ghee/coconut oil for certain dishes. i checked my supplies and we have enough for more than 12 months even if we don't buy more. So i'll carry on as usual for now, one in one out, if i gets hard to get hold of i have enough to buffer any instability but no need for me to do anything different for now.

I have been keeping a small stockpile ever since Brexit, mainly because I don't have good health, have food intolerances and cannot just eat anything if there are shortages in my usual foods. Also I'm housebound so do need to have readily-available food on my shelves if I get ill or snowed in. That said, I have topped up tinned tomatoes as they're so useful for many dishes, and bought a little extra sunflower oil as I use that for stir fries. Am thinking of using coconut oil instead though, if stocks get too low, provided it doesn't change the flavour too much. I have plenty of tinned fish (sardines, mackerel, tuna) as they're useful staples. I also have plenty of rice, but not wheat flour as I can't eat it, instead I have various other flours such as maize. As for non-food items, I always keep a small amount of medical supplies up to date.9

I have very limited storage space in my tiny kitchen but there is a large shed outside in which I keep a small Beko freezer (designed to operate in a garage or other unheated space). I also have a non-working upright fridge/freezer out there and wonder if it would be suitable to use as a cupboard to store tinned food, packets of rice, pasta, long life milk etc. There is evidence of mice in the shed so storing things in plastic tubs is probably not sensible! My theory is that the fridge/freezer would have insulation inside which would protect the contents from extremes of temperature. Thoughts please?6
