I've got Tesco cumberland sausages for our toad in the hole this evening. I buy the finest ones if I do buy supermarket sausages as they come in 10s and we use 5 a time so I'll freeze the others. We have a couple of good butchers not too far from us, I used to drive to a neighbouring village and buy them 5 weeks worth at a time, but increased petrol costs have put paid to that. The local butcher I can walk to is an acceptable alternative, and has the advantage of being bigger sausages.

Whenever I pop into Aldi I always make a point of buying a shedload of tinned stuff. Chopped toms in particular as they're very versatile for batch home cooking on the slow cooker for CCCs, curries and spag bols.
I also like tinned soups as they're rather filling, relatively healthy and well priced at around 50p per tin. So I buy around 16 tins of different flavours which will last me a good couple of months.
The beauty of tinned food is that they have a relatively long shelf-life. So buying in bulk now could save me a few quid further down the road

Re sausages:
We buy Tesco Finest, 2 packs of 6 at a time as we have 4 between us per meal. That's £1.66 per meal for 2.
Have tried Aldi specially selected but found the skins tough and over peppery for us.
Bought 4 links of butcher's sausages that cost me £3.27.
Very nice, very little fat came out.
But we decided that they didn't taste twice as nice so have gone back to Tesco Finest.
Down- shifted and up-shifted and found what we like for the price.6 -
I've just been to Tesco to get some crisps to add to DD's packed lunch. Gosh they were dear if you bought the smaller size packets.3

When I buy sausages I buy from my local deli counter in Dobbies as they are locally sourced from Brogdale farm.
The deli counter is franchised to a local butcher, and most of the meat is from local farms in Kent.
I love their Gloucester Old Spot sausages they will do a tray of twenty for £10.00 or you can buy them by the kilo. They are to my mind the best bangers to buy, 87% pork and taste as sausages used to taste like when I was a little girl. Two of those and some mash and steamed veg and you are full to burstingThey also sell gammons and chicken and various other meats, slightly dearer than the supermarkets but the taste and quality are well worth it.I'd rather have something really nice than just something to fill up on I can understand why people buy supermarket stuff though as it has to fit their needs and purses ,so my nice bangers are my treat now and again I eat veggie about 2-3 times a week so I don't mind spending a little more on meat.
I know the price of fish is on the rise, but in my area I have a brilliant wet fish shop and again the quality is just excellent and worth a little more.
Within driving distance of me is Whitstable, and their fresh fish market where the fish are almost leaping off the slab they are so fresh.Well worth a drive out now and again to stock up.
As I'm eating down my freezer at the moment, I'm not buying very much at all ,but the cash I am saving I have put to one side to restock the freezer with once defrosted.
Having done an inventory of my tinned stuff I have cut back on shopping quite a bit at the moment but I estimate by June I will be restocking my stores.
