What will you be stocking up on 'Just in case ' ?

Flour is one of the things that will certainly be in short supply this year, due to the impact of the war on production and transport. So I think it's conceivable that they were indeed out of stock. I imagine that, as it gets increasingly harder to source (and expensive), the bread making factories will be favoured over supermarket shelvesFebruary wins: Theatre tickets6

My mum always had a store cupboard, my sister and I used to play shops when we were kids. Its rubbed off on me and Ive always had a store cupboard ' just in case' . Its been a great help over the last couple of years where people have panic shopped and left empty shelves.7

I think YorksLass has hit the nail on the head buy an extra tin or something when ever you go to the shops and it won't be so hard to get a decent stock indoors .We are all living in uncertain times and panic buying really helps no one.
I only try to shop about once or twice a month, mainly because I am a frugal old batand plus I'm not keen on crowds of people anyway .
I keep a small list by my chair, and add to it as I go along of things I'm maybe running low on or out of.
I have a decent stock of things as a rule, but have been trying to run my freezer down for ages and I swear there is food in there thats multiplyingI know today I will list what's available for meals for the coming month and see roughly how long before I can defrost it properly. I think theres probably about a month's meals at least to go.
Great what I have been finding though and sometimes its a bit of a freezer roulette with forgotten unmaked things in foil or a nice surprise when I found a chocolate ice that had escaped to hide behind a bag of brussle sprouts
But things are ticking along nicely, and slowly starting to get some wriggle room ,although yesterday I had dug out a 500 gm pack of mince that I defrosted and turned into five portions of shepards pies with the addition of some frozen carrots, diced onions and mushrooms and lentils.Topped with cheesy mash and once cold has been returned to the freezer
But I will get through them, and my purse if feeling the benefit as I am not spending as much .
I have £68 odd tucked away from my Jan-Mar food budget that's been saved by using up what I have in the freezer, and not buying anything to replace it. So my economics seem to be working
Onwards and upwards chums

I already have a big supply of food, i'm abit of a prepper and i always have at least 6 months supply. However that supply was not created by panic buying or clearing shelves.
It was done 1 tin, 1 bag of pasta, 1 bag of rice at a time. It was pulled together over a number of years each time i shop, i buy a couple of extra items for the deep storage.

Flour (in bulk) is already going up. One of the people that I follow posted a recent YouTube video saying that 16kg strong bread flour has gone from £16.99 at the beginning of the year to £22.99. I don't buy that much in bulk, but I do make all of our bread, so will stock up on flour.
Our local egg source has put her price up from £1.20 to £1.40 for 6 - not surprising as the cost of chicken feed has also gone up - and a friend told me that point-of-lay chooks are now nearly £10 each. Not that I can keep chickens as my DH has a terrible allergy to the feathers, exacerbating his asthma and if for some reason, I couldn't look after them, we'd be in a bit of a pickle and so would the chooks!5 -
I buy Morrisons wholemeal bread and it's recently gone up from 55p a loaf to 59p so it's still pretty cheap compared with most bread.

I buy all my bread YS from M&S - doesn’t seem to matter what time of day I go in, it’s always between 40-50p a loaf. I guess they must have too much stock, but it helps my budget!Books read 2023 - 49/755

We went into Morris&ns today (needed cat food as our four won't eat Li4ls) and noticed that they are rationing sunflower oil to two per purchase.
Li4l had SR & Plain flour @ 45p but no strong flour (haven't seen it in there for a while tbh).

I had my Asda white bread flour substituted yesterday. They sent me an Asda wholemeal one instead, as I had already got one of those on the same order I sent it back. Got no Paracetamol of Ibrufen either. My sunflower oil was substituted for a spray one, that went back. Went into the store my order comes from today and all Asdas painkiller shelves were stripped bare only expensive ones available, Still no Asda white bread flour5

A few things, but nothing huge in terms of increases in stock I hold.
Bread Flour: I have stocked up on good quality bread flour, I bake bread a few times a week for myself as well as my mum and sister so it will be rotated through anyway, but I am now holding around six months worth rather than a couple of months worth. This is stored correctly so it would be fine for more than a year.
Plain Flour: I do not get through nearly as much of this, but I have 12 kg which I will again rotate through from baking, random cooking etc.
Baking other: I have dried yeast (multiple small sealed cans), salt, sugar etc. enough to last a year if needed. The yeast because it is cheaper to buy a dozen cans at a time from Amazon, the salt because I have a range of different salts (different types of sea salt, smoked salt, rock salt, table salt etc.)
Oil: When Russia invaded Ukraine I bought a few extra bottles of sunflower oil as I though there might be a short supply, I have a year's worth, but happy to switch to rapeseed oil etc. if needed.
Olives: I have a few dozen cans of Perello olives, apart from the fresh ones from Waitrose they are my favourite, I buy them when they are discounted and somehow I double stocked, but no harm done.
Apart from that I can manage around any shortages, I will just switch to an alternative. I always carry a good stock, so if there is an issue similar to when everyone started panic buying at the start of Covid I will just ride it out from existing stocks. I am not worried about overall shortages of food, though I expect that there may be some temporary or specific shortages, but as long as I can still enjoy home baked bread, olives and a beer I will be fine.7
